post op discomfort

Hey all...

I'm almost 3 weeks post-op.  I'm a bit concerned, and will call the clinic tomorrow as I'm still having sensitivity/discomfort in my abdomen.  Sleeping on my side is still uncomfortable, and the area around the incision that's highest on my abdomen kinda hurts at times.  I can breath deep without feeling any pain, but just reclining, sitting, lying down - I can feel something that just feels "off".  Even when I drink something I can hear it/feel it gurgling, almost like bubbles.  I'm eating ok, still following all the guidelines, drinking lots and able to get in 5-6000 steps in daily.  I don't know... just a bit worried?  Should I be?

Hey There;

I'm 11 days out (WoW Already?) and I hear the gurgling quite frequently when I drink things - in fact, it was bothering me because it seemed as soon as that happened I had to go #2 but when visiting the Nurse Practitioner on Thursday she advised me that's a normal process and to get used to it - it will keep happening, maybe for ever.

With respect to uncomfortable, for the most part I'm not exhibiting any real discomfort during the day, mostly when I am a bit tired at night, my lower left abdomen feels a little pain and the center of my chest near the top incision bothers me if stretch too far or accidentally lift something heavier than my waterbottle...

This probably doesn't help you but maybe it gives you a clue to the fact your not alone ;)

Thanks Bob.  There is some comfort for sure in knowing I'm not alone.  :)

No one warned me about the post op trots... Thought I was dying or picked up an infection at the hospital. started about 6 days pos-op and lasted a week. I feel your pain.

I am 2&1/2 months out and I had pain until 4 weeks post op.  I too was worried but it went away. I didn't have your exact symptoms but I did have a painful pulling sensation around my lower left side incision I also had a HUGE bruise for 6 weeks there.  Do you have a fever? Can you check your blood pressure? My advice would be to just listen to your body.... You know it best. If you feel something is not right then you should go get looked at.  However, I wanted you to know that I also had pain for weeks after and I am fine now :) 66lbs lighter fine :)  best of luck!!

Heh, I'm over a year out and my tummy still sounds like a semi-clogged drain when I eat or drink (not all the time now, but several times a day!)  You get use to the sounds/sensation.  I just apologize to the people around me who look at me with concern/horror when the drain starts draining. ;)
