What Happens Usually at Pre-op? (I'm going to Humber River)

I was just wondering what exactly is done at pre-op usually and how soon before your surgery date was is?  I am going to Humber River for my surgery. 

I went to Finch site, but no matter. I talked to others that went to other sites...and I have had other types of surgery. Pre op is pretty standard. First you will see the pharmacy nurse. Bring all medications you take in a bag so she can log quantities and type of meds with frequency. Here is your time to specify allergies or sensitivities with foods and meds and adhesives bandages. Next you will weigh in and talk to ask the nurse any questions of concern. The nurse will fill you in on length of stay and where you will go after surgery. That is when you should be prepared with any insurance carrier and if you are covered for private or semi. Don't get excited there is no private rooms where you are going. Next you will wait for the anestheologist. He will compare your history on the computer with meds you are taking with the internal Drs reports to ensure you wil be given the right anesthetic. After you see him you are told to go to X-ray dept. I was booked for reporting in at 8:30 and I got out of X-ray dept at 12:30. Usually pre op is two weeks prior to surgery but I was bumped to one week prior to surgery.

What is the X-ray for? Thanks.

The pre-op tests are usually for the benefit of the anethstesiologist. They typically include blood work, chest x-ray and an EKG.

one good reason is to detect if your airways are clear.
