Hi, everyone.

I'm looking for info about hotels and hospital rates near TWH.  My family isn't from Toronto, so they'll need to get a room while I'm in for surgery.  Any recommendations?  What are the rates like?

Also, is the hospital rate available for non-surgical reasons?  My anesthesiologist appointment is two weeks before my surgery date and is at 7:30am.  I'm happy to make the drive, but I'd rather do it the night before and then pop in for the appointment after a good night's sleep.

Thanks!

Have you ever used www.hotwire.com ? They offer some great deals on that site.

If your surgery is during the Toronto International Film Festival Sept 10 -20, you will have a very hard time finding anything in the core.

To cut costs, consider staying out by the airport or in the outskirts.

It's not during TIFF, but thanks for the info. I'll check out Hotwire.

Hello!

I used Trivago.ca and double checked hotel rates directly.  I loved the Doubletree - it's a 5 minute drive from TWH.  I didn't like Courtyard.  I also used www.airbnb.ca.

The UHN has this list - however I found online rates were often cheaper than the hotel was offering for hospital patients.

^^ Booking.com actually has TWH as a landmark to work with too.  I used Kensington Market as my "location" on a few sights as the hospital wasn't always coming up as an option.

Hope that helps :)

Oh and be prepared to hang out for a few hours for that Pre-op.  They do blood work, you meet the pharmacist and a nurse.  Bring any medical insurance information you might have if you're covered for semi-private room.

I've been to Toronto for medical appointments more times than I care to remember and there is a Super 8 in Chinatown , which is about 1 big block from TWH.  Their rates I believe are $79/night if two people and they go up if there are more than 2.  You have to call them directly to get the hospital rate as the toll free number won't know anything about it.  Rooms are very clean, neighborhood was quiet.  Parking is underground and about $18/day.  It's on the 3rd floor of a Chinese mall but you can't get much closer than that.  You just need to show them proof of an appointment so if you have a letter with a date and time that is all they will need.  I haven't stayed in 2 years so the prices may have changed a bit but definitely worth looking into.
