What are you eating/doing today? (Tuesday)

My thought on bananas, they are for monkeys not people. I have hated that fruit my whole life, not even sure I would call it a fruit, it's a big mess of sugar and starch all rolled into one. And the excuse that it's full of potassium, well it doesn't go over with me, tons of foods are high in potassium and just as easy to eat as a banana.
Soon when the fall apples are out, I will have to limit myself to one per day as they are delicious and I know I will go for an apple as a snack instead of something with protein, I could easily eat 5 apples in a day but then my protein count would be in the toilet and I'm not going to drink protein shakes to make up the protein so I can eat all those apples, limit to 1 per day and eat meat.
I don't understand the appeal (a-peel, get it? I amuse me) of bananas myself - so sickly sweet and they make me slightly nauseous. I do understand people wanting them for the sweetness and the potassium - but I have low potassium issues due to some meds I take and eating a banana unfortunately made zero difference.
I love Honey Crisp apples SO. MUCH. But I do limit myself on those as you do. I had a craving-carbs experience after Christmas because I am in love with Clementine oranges. I would limit myself to one per day, but found myself actually craving them. And when the one per day didn't "satisfy" the craving anymore, I started craving other carby foods. So, I had to cut them out pretty much. :(

If people actually looked up foods high in potassium they may not run for that banana as it's not even in the top 5. Imagine 3 oz of halibut or a cup of FF yogurt or a cup of brocolli actually have more potassium than a medium banana. Pretty sure we all keep FF yogurt in the house and it's as convenient to eat as a banana and has protein to boot :)
I had to stop with the cuties 2 years ago for the same reason, one turned into two turned into every damn time I saw them so out they went.
You're right on the higher potassium foods, especially the yogurt. "Eat a banana" seems to be the old standby for some reason.
I had to start buying only 7 clementines at a time - one for each day of the week. I did discover through doing that, the "on the vine" clementines and OMG, delish. Of course. lol

Have never seen the on the vine ones and glad I haven't if they are that good. DH loves fruit at work so I buy tons the week he is home then he eats none at all other than berries so after throwing out copious amounts of fruit since I refuse to eat it, I"m down to buying a container of berries and that's about it. This week I"ll have to pick up two containers of blueberries to bring with us in case I decide to bake the poor baby some blueberry muffins one morning. I made him cinnamon buns last time we were there and he thought he had died and gone to heaven. Coffee perking and cinnamon buns in the oven sure got his ass out of bed quickly that day. And yes my kitchen at the cottage is the mirror image of my one at home. I buy two of everything.
Did you have to mention the smell of cinnamon buns? Too sugary for me but the smell!!
Blueberries - I wait all year for the wild ones. You have to rob a bank on the way to the market as they are ridiculously expensive- but oh they are so good. I like them in a bowl with some skim milk. Not a huge bowl - but for sure 3/4 of a cup with 1/2 cup of skim milk.

I love the smell of them too. Blueberries are very scarce this year and extremely expensive. We may go to blueberry mountain on our lake to see if there are any there. Since you need to get there by boat, it's not a popular spot. There are about 10 places that sell them by the basket and normally they are there all day and this year, they are all sold out by noon. I think they are $15/litre this year up here. Gone are the days of 6 quart baskets .
Crazy isn't it? I once bought enough to make a big pie - a big 25 dollar pie! LOL

Not fair. Now you have me craving Honey Crisp apples. Bad Tracey. And Cutie oranges. Bad Karen. And wild blueberries, Bad Barb. And homemade shortbread. Bad Andrew. Now all of you go and sit on the naughty stool, but Andrew put on your kilt first. ROFLMFAO. Good suggestion on the cucumbers. Good Zizzler.
