What are you eating/doing today? (Tuesday)

Good morning everyone.  Let's hope that the insomnia bug hasn't taken up residence in my house because not sleeping sucks.  Karen you asked about fruit yesterday.  You are right about summer being a time when we seem to eat more fruit.  Yesterday I had an 1/8 cup of blueberries in my salad and if there had been watermelon in the house I think it wouldn't have stood a chance.  Maybe it's because it's hot out and we crave something cool and refreshing.  I know in the colder months I crave soup and hot chocolate.  So here is my question for the day - if we crave fruit because it's hot and we want something cool and refreshing, then what can we substitute or how can we minimize the carbs of fruit.

Today it's swimming, meeting a friend for coffee, errands, gardening, pay some bills and laundry.

Hey cc, woke up about half an hour ago too, so I hear you about not sleeping. I hear you regarding the fruit, I find I want it really badly too with all the fresh local stuff around.  My only thought is to try substituting watery refreshing low carb veg like cucumbers or peppers for the fruit.  Or try sticking to lower carb fruit like berries.  I hear you regarding watermelon, I totally want to eat it right now too.  I read somewhere that there is a lot of potassium in watermelon, maybe that is why?

Just work today and the gym afterward.  Been feeling really low as work demoted me back to my old position last week, even though they told me they would be keeping me. They gave the job to a colleague and I am super jealous because I cleaned up the huge mess and now my colleague gets to enjoy a nice easy job due to my hard work.  Plus, he is now my boss!  I am trying very hard not to take all this personally but it really hurts.  I need to focus on stuff outside of work, that will help.  Yesterday I had no appetite whatsoever and my calories were super low, going to try to bump that up today.

Ouch. That is truly a difficult work situation, Zizzler. Man, that really does suck and I'm sorry to hear about it. I know you could probably grieve it since you're union, but I guess you have to consider the overall work environment if you were to do that. I wish I had better words of encouragement for you as I know that's gotta hurt - "chin up" and "hang in there" and "it's their loss" just doesn't seem to cut it with this one. Know that your feelings are valid and I'm sorry. xo

Edited to add:  Perhaps there is a personnel-problem with your colleague who was promoted. Unfortunately, sometimes employers will promote expecting the person to fail in the process to get rid of them.

Hey Karen, thanks for the reply.  In this case there is nothing they can do as I was in an acting position which they decided at the last minute not to extend.  Plus our union is a joke, they take our money and provide almost nothing back in return.  Plus, you go to your Union and your career in that department is basically over, unofficially of course.  It seems to me I spend way too much time worrying about work when my energy could be spent on other things I enjoy.  Time to focus on non-work stuff, shift into neutral at work for the sake of my sanity.

You are right to take your focus away from work   What they did is horrible.  Sending you hugs.  Don't forget to PM me the names of the people you want taken care of ;) or should I have said spoken sternly to ;) ;)

Thanks cc, it was horrible but oh well, out of my hands.  Thanks for the offer to take care of them, it is tempting. Lol

VERY good plan. And rejoice in the knowledge that since the other guy is the "boss" now.... you're not (ultimately) responsible! LOL

Yes I am enjoying that part for sure.  Singing starts again soon, that will be a nice distraction from work stuff.

I don't think anyone is saying don't eat fruit at all, but try to limit it.  It seems lately, some people are having fruit at every meal and every snack then wonder why their carb count is so high or their calories are hight.  Personally, I stick to berries as they are lower sugar and I find a few is all that is needed.  I loved the red grapes earlier this summer but they were too sugary and I wanted more than I should have been eating. Cherries early on were really good but I could have one serving of 10 and be happy with it.  As soon as I want fruit more than protein then I know it has to go.  As for refreshing cool things in the summer, I make infused water.  It's crisp, and clean and very few of the calories from whatever I use gets in the water plus it keeps my water intake high and satisfies that need for something fresh.  Cucumber and mint infused water is delicious. Water infused with citrus fruit is another good one.  I don't do the whole watermelon infused one as it's basicially pureed watermelon in water and you may as well just eat the damn fruit.

I got 4 hours sleep last night, oh yay me.  Allergies are waking me up between the sneezing and itchy eyes and that's with 2 Benedryl in me.  Time to see the doc again about maybe starting allergy shots as August is the month from hell for me.

Have some yardwork to do today and organizing our trip later in the week so will get my ass on that shortly.

B - protein shake, way too long ago

S - yogurt with 1 tbsp of holy crap mixed in

L - steak stir fried with green peppers, onions, garlic, green salad

S - have found myself hungry late afternoon so will have 1 oz of extra old cheddar

D - took chicken thighs out so will figure something out with them like maybe garlic chicken, love that dish and have a bottle of white that just needs to be used up in cooking as I can't stand drinking the crap, and a side green salad and some roasted cauliflower

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. Perhaps we were reading the same posts but I too noticed someone eating multiple servings of fruit every day, at every meal - and not just "a few grapes" - whole bananas to boot - and very little protein, just fruit.  While fruit is sweet and delicious, it's not a post-op diet.
