What are you eating/doing today? (Monday)
Well, CRAP! I had almost finished typing my reply and just as I was finishing up, my entire post disappeared. If this is any indication of how Monday is going to be, I'm going back to bed. LOL
Anyway. What I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted by my laptop's apparent seizure:
Carbohydrates: I've been noticing a trend in some people's menus the past little while. I'm thinking it's likely because it's summer and fresh produce is so downright delightful right now - I have seen a few posts about people eating a large amount of fruit each day. To each his own, we make our own choices of what we shove in our respective gobs. But make no mistake, fruit is a carb - and a sugary one at that. I tend to keep carbs fairly low as a rule, even at 9 years out and completely at "goal" - likely part of the reason I'm still there. So, question of the day - what say you re. sugary carbs?
Off to work for another fun-filled day of controlled-crazy, have a couple of errands to run after, not sure what else - going to be another scorcher out there!
9 years post-op
- coffee with cream x 3 over the day -
B - GNC Total Lean (banana - my last one! )
S - muffin-tin sized crustless quiche with 1 tbl. parmesan petals and a few shots of Frank's, nuked 'til melty
L - homemade roast chicken salad (chicken breast, diced red and orange pepper, diced red onion, mayo), 5 melba rounds and a few cucumber slices for scooping
S - ham/swiss/pickle roll-ups (2) with deli mustard for dipping (lately I've been making these and then slicing them into bite-sized pieces, eaten with a fork, and dipped in the mustard - what a treat, I actually crave this lol)
D - 3-4 oz chicken breast, 1/4 cup homemade potato salad (ohhhh, the carby goodness!), a few bites spring mix salad with tiny garden tomatoes, sweet onion vinaigrette
S - not sure yet, but coffee/tea for sure
Have a marvelous Monday!
K. :)

I've noticed the large amount of fruit being eaten as well. And it's not just one piece per day or anything like that. I like to get my carbs from veggies not fruit. Way too much sugar in them. I save my fruit intake for fall when the honeycrisp apples are out and later in the winter when the cuties are out. I will have berries now and then mixed in with yogurt but it's a small handful. Grapes have been delicious this summer and I eat a dozen or so at a time but I stopped buying them as I wanted them too often. Hell I feel guilty eating a sweet potato now and then as it's full of carbs and natural sugars as well but it's nothing compared to the natural sugar in fruit.
I save my fruit intake in the form of a dry glass of wine, less carbs and less calories than a single piece of fruit. Amazing but true.
Agreed re watching the fruit. I eat it sparingly as its too much sugar. I try to keep my veggies to green ones. Today the soup indicates 29 carbs and the kale salad 30 carbs in my menu. I don't think the soup amount is correct as other then a few carrots the soup is filled with low glycemic veggies, however, I cant be bothered to find another soup in MFP that shows the stats I think are correct.
For example - a whole beefsteak tomato has 25 calories and 5 grams of carbs and only 3 sugars. Delicious - and great stats. A 6 inch banana ( which is very small) has 90 calories and 23 grams of carbs - 12 sugars. 1 cup of watermelon has only 46 calories but 12 grams of carbs and 10 grams of sugar. I will ea****ermelon sparingly too as I could really chow down too much of it.
The point Karen is trying to make is to really watch your choices. Some can cause cravings and spike your sugar. Its a balance you need to figure out.

I'll match you with insomnia CC. Was up til 1 trying to fall asleep and even reading couldn't knock me out and neither did my allergy meds so paced around a bit and finally dozed off til 3 then that was it for me. No naps in my day or I may not sleep tonight. I'm packing up for a trip to the cottage later this week so have to get all my menu planned and pack clothes, etc. No other real plans other than reading and drinking coffee. No eggs on the menu today even though I want them. Will save up my eggs for 10 days at the cottage. We tend to have a few mornings of peameal and eggs or bacon and eggs so will give them a break the rest of the week so I can truly enjoy them out there.
B - protein shake 2 hours ago
S - 2 source 35 cal yogurts as I'm out of greek with 1 tbsp of holy crap stirred in
L - BBQ steak, big green salad with balsamic vinaigrette
S - one ounce extra old cheddar
D - BBQ steak, green salad with balsamic and roasted veggies, likely have a wee glass of red after dinner
Mmmm... peameal. I love it cut thick and grilled on the BBQ. Thanks for the craving. ;)

That's how I like it as well, thick and on the grill. It's so full of water nowadays that it's the only way to cook it. I bought a cast iron grill/griddle that I can throw on my BBQ or gas range and I use it all the time. I do the peameal straight on the actual grill and then I do the eggs on the cast iron griddle then I keep all the odors outside.

Barb, I will have to send you a pic of my 2 football sized smallies I caught last week. Took the head off and gutted them then put lemon, garlic, parsley, white wine and s&p inside then the same on the top, wrapped in foil, threw it on the grill and it was delicious. The juices from the lemon, wine, garlic gathered in the bottom of the foil and it made a delicious light jus to put on top. I have converted my fried fish loving hubby to having it baked this way.
Sounds really good. Especially fresh caught. I think I like fish the best. Do you remember my trout cravings while in the losing phase? I still like trout but have moved to more white fish as the stats are better. I still have salmon and trout a few times a month
Fish with herbs and a little jus is the best. I am already looking forward to more swordfish tonight. It was a particularly lovely piece I purchased the other day at the fishmonger. I froze some but am cooking it up as quick as possible while fresh
