Back In The ER at TWH!
And I was right!!! The reason my hemoglobin was not going up with the iron infusions was that I had ulcers slowly leaking blood in my pouch.
Well last night around 10pm the leak turned into a river. All of a sudden it felt like someone was stabbing me in the stomach! I tried to walk to the bathroom but I collapsed on the tiles in the entryway. My husband heard me and ran downstairs to find me vomiting mouthful after mouthful of blood. It looked like a crime scene in there!!
he called 911 and they brought me in. Everyone here was been fantastic!! I had an instant CT Scan and then Dr. Jackson came to see me and took me right up for an endoscopy.
Many bleeding ulcers but they are fixing me up and I should be home in a few days. Will likely need a blood transfusion but I'm just thankful my hubby acted quickly.
Please listen to your bodies. The scary thing is, up until last night, when things turned life threatening, I had no signs/symptoms of ulcers. Scary stuff!
This is why a "dislike" button is needed.
OMG, this is awful. The good thing is that you're being treated. Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully it will help some of us notice the signs and seek treatment (instead of rolling over to go back to sleep).

Thanks Guys! Looks like I am going home today. Everything has been stable with no further vomiting of blood. The blood in my stool is quite alarming but they assure me it's normal.
I lost quite a bit of blood. My hemoglobin today is at 72....but they won't give a blood transfusion until you are below 70.
its so scary that I have no risk factors for ulcers ( no smoking, caffeine, NSAID use, alcohol use). I felt great one minute and the next minute I was on the floor in a pool of blood. I'm scared it will happen again and I'll be alone with my four kids who are too young to know what to do.
It sucks that I had just finished 6 weeks of IV Iron Infusions (at 6 hours to do each one!) and managed to get my hemoglobin up to 104 and now it's even worse than before I started. Soooo back I go for more infusions.
Thanks for the thoughts and I will keep you guys posted. For the record, despite everything I would still do the RNY a thousand times over...no regrets!!
