MEET THE SURGEON AUG 14th (DR MARY ANNE AARTS)
On August 14th I get to meet my surgeon via OTN...I will be meeting with Dr Mary Anne Aarts out of Toronto East General Hospital. From Ratemd I have seen that she has some pretty glowing reviews which definitely makes me feel a lot better. I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience with her? I am thinking that surgery shouldnt be that far off??!! Is this a correct assumption??
I met her June 12 at TWH (she was 2 1/2 hrs late). She has been doing gastric surgeries with the programme since 2009 - did about 47 last year. She is very accomplished. She sometimes works together with Dr. Jamie Cyriac https://www.ratemds.com/doctor-ratings/881467/Dr-Jamie-Cyriac-East%2BYork-ON.html
My surgery is set for Aug. 12 and I learned just before my pre-op appt. that Dr. Cyriac would be my surgeon and that he would not meet me at the pre-op, but day of the surgery. They gave me his ph# if I wanted to try to arrange a meeting. Dr. Aarts will not be there - so not sure why I had to wait 2 1/2 hours to meet someone for 5 mins. who won't be operating on me.
Fortunately I have met a retired school principal who had her surgery done by Cyriac - she was very pleased and so I am satisfied with her endorsement of him.
eek...well I guess either way..if it is cyriac or aarts it looks like I am in capable hands..its just that you always hear of all the good doctors out of HRRH and then here I am going to TEGH, with doctors I had never heard of..so i was a little worried..guess I will find out more on August 14th
on 8/6/15 12:32 pm - Mississauga, Canada
Oh, never fear... The doctors out of TWH and TEGH are just as fantastic they just do things so differently at other hospitals.
Also, at my surgeon appt, I met with a surgeon who doesn't even work at TWH, it was her last day, Dr. Penner did my surgery. 2.5 hours is awful though. They don't usually run that late.
As for me, I am 6 days out and I am doing good. I am feeling good, driving, walking, and everything I have eaten and drank is going down with no issues at all. I have to say that I am so sick of soups and shakes though haha.
If you are really dying to know and can't wait... You could call and ask how far out are they booking surgeries. Currently at TWH it's 2 months from surgeon appointment (at least, that's what my NP said).

Dr. Aarts did my surgery on May 13. The original schedule date for surgery that she gave me had to be re-scheduled, and her office went above and beyond to get a second date that worked for me. She is a very good doctor, and is very oriented towards making sure you learn what you need to know. She took time to answer questions and made sure my stay in the hospital went well. You are in good hands,
Keith
She did my surgery in March/2011. Lovely lady. I've seen her a few times after for a few issues, and she and her office are truly caring about their patients.
