Feeling a little overwhelmed

Hi,

Almost 3 weeks post op, I'm  just worried I guess? I feel I'm not doing things right I am done 22lbs from opti and surgery. I measure everything and make sure I take it all with me in a little lunch bag, I guess it's the puree stag maybe over whelming me a lot.  I love to cook but I feel myself stumped am I crazy?  Also I can only get thru my protein usually when eating my puree is this ok? I read the my guide; and it said it for softs that you should try and consume at least 50% of protein is this ok for the puree?

A couple of things, I bought chicken burgers I read nutrition facts on the package and it had all the recommend requirements, I puree it and started to eat it and I assuming the smell turned me off and thats happened more then once with other foods, I can't even eat the poached egg I felt so sick after taking one bite of it.  I will say thou my grandmother has been an awesome person in this process last night she made roast beef she pureed it with a beef both and I actually felt like I was eating roast beef but I could only eat that I couldn't touch the 2 tablespoons of mash potatoes or carrots is this ok??? I think I'm being a worry wart!  for lunch I a puree chilli I made for myself with beans and lean ground beef. Please let me know if this is ok? I feel Im sucking at this right now and I don't know why.

Thanks B

You are doing totally fine and yes some foods will turn you off. I pretty much survived on protein. Didn't have room for anything else but we need it so it's all good. Keep doing what you are doing and you will be fine. I lived on chili in puréed stage and still love it to this day. A good go to if you are on the run. It's also something I can get at Wendy's if I'm on the road. All the best.

Thanks Monica, I felt I was going crazy yesterday and I had my husband running everywhere I am glad he loves me so much or he would have committed me yesterday... I like Wendy's chilli too so maybe that will be my go too when I am at one of boys sporting events.

Question I hear everyone drinking the GNC protein drinks banana and strawberry flavours are these ok????

The GNC Total Lean shakes are terrific! For years and years I drank the Premier shakes (Costco) that have 30 g protein (and still do), but the recent discovery of the GNC shakes has been a wonderful change and they are delicious - 25 g protein in them.

You're doing just fine. I know it can feel so overwhelming at first and we do start worrying if we're "doing this right" - you are! Eating the protein portion is the most important, and you are. For pureed, I found blending up homemade protein based soups, stews, and chili very effective to get food into me. Keep supplementing with full fluid items and protein shakes when necessary.

P.S. Never surprised to hear when people can't do eggs - eggs and I had a terrible break-up for over 5 years after surgery. I'm so happy that I can (usually) tolerate them now. lol

Hang in there!

Hey blueeyes

You must have read my mind with this question today!!   I am sitting here having my shake thinking about what the heck I'm going to try today.  Today is my first day of soft food.  I must say I'm a little paranoid to have something that will make me feel sick, as up to this point I have had zero problems.

This stepping forward from full fluids IS a BIG DEAL,  just wanted to you know you are not alone and  there are tons of us "fresh post-opers" all anxiously looking for help and suggestions!!  Make sure you share any tips you discover!!!    :)

I'm like you and now that you wrote down your questions. I can say you are doing better than me. I'm not panicking about not getting foods in. As long as I have my shakes and try to keep up the protein intake...I will be fine and so will you. I went to a bbq party yesterday and brought my magic bullet with me. Not much but at least the smell of the back and the puréed baba chicken on my plate were in harmony with the moment. I'm not losing very fast but I decided to count calories and protein and I am doing better than I thought. Look up calorie counter in your browser and some of them even tell you how much protein is in the food. Today my 2 1/2 year old grand daughter wants my famous roast beef. I will purée mine but I will not be able to eat mashed potatoes. Remember...protein first, follow by veggies and if room just a small taste of carbs. Sometimes it feels like you are overwhelmed but really, write it down, then it makes sense.

regards

Helen

Thank you everyone... I will say my recovery has been good I've had some uncomfortable periods but nothing too bad... I'm nervous to eat fast or eat beyond that comfortable feeling.. Nothing seems to be bugging me expect for the eggs.  I don't feel hungry most of the time. Yogurt has been bugging me a lot too, I get a sharpe pain on my left side.
