One week post op

Hello everyone.... this is my first post...new to the site and the forums.  I am just over 1 week post op and am having trouble with the food options during stage 2...  Did anyone else experience issues with all the dairy and soups?

I was not a fan of soups before surgery and get grossed out and gag a little at the yogurts, oatmeals, and soups that I need to eat.

I eat as little as I need to and add protein powder to all my meals in order to get my protein in.  I am eating slowly ( 1 hour to eat 3/4 cup of yogurt) but still feel sick/nauseous sometimes after I eat...anyone else experience this?

Hi Laurie and welcome! I think it's safe to say most of us have experienced the same or similar issues. I'm 6 months out now and can hardly remember those days and things will get easier. Just try to be patient while you're healing. One thing that helped me with protein in the early days was drinking Premier Protein shakes. A lot of protein I could sip as slowly as I needed to. I also enjoyed soft boiled eggs if you like them they are an option.

best of luck in this incredible journey ahead! Kim

Hi Kim...thanks for your note.  I did not think that I could have eggs until the next phase?  I thought poached eggs were allowed once you hit the Pureed stage of the diet?  Is that not the case?  I had my surgery at Humber and they did not list eggs during this phase.  Where did you have your surgery?

Sorry Laurie...you are on full fluids...my mistake! I struggled with that too. Eggs will have to wait and it's definitely tough if you're not a fan of soup. I had some soups that I liked and used but other than that, it was SF pudding (which you can add protein powder to) and protein shakes which I found very filling at the time.

I am also one week post op. I remember reading that a lot of people have a lactose intolerance after surgery. Might be worth considering. Look at your choices this way.....you lived on Opti. It's only temporary. I eat slow but it doesn't take me long.

Hi Tara...thanks for your note.  I am just counting down the days to next Tuesday....  5 more days of this stuff and then I can have more variety.

I knew it would be tough but the total lack of appetite does not help either.

Hi Tara...how long does it take you to eat?  I am eating slowly as well...about an hour per meal.....my soup is always stone cold by the time I am done unless I reheat half way through....

I am eating my allowed amounts , but it likely only takes me like 20 mins. Same with drinking. Everything seems to go down good at this point. And I am full. I get a bit of a signal if too much too fast of slight nausea. Hope this helps

Where did you get the protein powder to add to stuff? I can't find it anywhere.
