New to OH

Hi All,

I've been lurking for a few weeks now. I thought that I would finally say hello.

I am coming to the final appointments at TWH. My Psychologist Appointment is on August 19th and then I'll see what happens from there.

I have been taking this slowly - making sure that my head is where it needs to be each step of the way.

I am a single mom of a 12 yr old boy with Autism. I wanted to make sure that everything was right for us as I move forward.

I have come to the conclusion that this needs to happen to ensure that we are both okay as I move into my 50s.

He will need me to continue to be strong and healthy.

I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life :-)

Well HELLO .  It sure sounds like you are ready !!

Thanks! It's funny but it all clicked into place a couple of weeks ago. Once that happened I was able to find the words to speak more confidently with my parents. Moms are tough -there is fear and guilt (I know it's how I feel whenever my son is dealing with something). My Mom will have lots more questions but at least for now she knows what's happening and more importantly how much pre-work goes into this prior to any kind of surgery.

I can relate to dealing with parents about surgery as my own parents were very concerned with my decision to pursue weight loss surgery. I came to realize that they were afraid for my safety and didn't know anything about weight loss surgery other than what they had heard or had seen on TV (horror stories mostly, of course). I had to be very gentle with them, explaining the procedure, requirements, etc. I took my mother with me to a surgeon appointment and she was able to meet him, ask him questions and by the time we left his office, she was completely comfortable with my choice. Since then, my parents have become my biggest cheerleaders and supporters through this. Perhaps take mom or dad to an appointment with you.
