Looking for good therapist downtown.
I don't care If it's a psychiatrist or psychologist, but I think I would prefer female. I actually think a psychologist that focuses on eating behaviours would be good. I plan to enquire at TWH, but just curious what you all think. I'd like to do a poll.

For therapy-based intervention, you'll want a psychologist. Psychiatrists do diagnosis and medical (drug) treatment these days. I highly recommend getting hooked up with a psychologist who uses CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) as it is really helpful in organizing your thoughts and behaviours (very effective when dealing with food/eating issues). Asking at TWH is an excellent idea. I know they also run Mindful Eating classes.

Thanks! I had a great cognitive behavior therapist who helped me develop coping skills for anxiety. I'm looking for one who specifically deals with weight. There is no shortage to be found online, but If someone has had particular success (or NOT) with an individual, that wwould iOS be lovely to know. :)
i am also signing up for the mindful eating classes. Did you partake in that? I love any type of mindfulness.

Do you see ways that your knowledge of CBT can be applied in this situation as well? The techniques are meant to be generalized to life in general.
No classes for me - no such thing 10 years ago when I was going through. I've reviewed th content - excellent resource.

Yes, I have been applying my coping mechanisms for what is obvious to me. The problem with disorders is that things that seem "normal" to the affected individual are not by other people's judgement.
its funny, when I was in my psych eval for WLS I had a "break through" that I didn't have with my shrink for the 2 years I saw him. Sometimes just finding someone to ask questions a certain way enable you to open up and realize what's been there the whole time.

Hi tatirod try here: http://www.camh.ca/en/hospital/care_program_and_services/addiction_programs/Pages/guide_eatdis_addiction_clinic.aspx
You would need a referral from your family doctor. If they can't get you in, they do recommend counselors (usually psychologists) who specialize in eating behaviours - some of them with sliding scale fees.
Good luck!
