Venting.
So, I've been keeping an eye out on Kijiji and the like for a softly used elliptical. Well today I came across one - a Nordic Track that has barely been used (allegedly) and for a 10th of it's original price. People are moving and don't want it in their new house. Cool. All I need to do is go pick it up. So I called my dad to go with me to pick it up. Here's the conversation.
Me: "Hey dad, I found an elliptical, great price, good condition, just have to go get it - can I borrow your truck?"
Dad: "What do you need a whatever you just said for?"
Me: "To exercise"
Dead Silence - so I elaborated
Me: "You know, so I that even if it's raining or better yet snowing, I can keep on getting a workout in"
Dad: "Why are you suddenly wanting to start exercising now?"
Aaaand that's all I needed to hear. Air out of the sails.
Thanks for the support dad! :/

Meh - I take comments from my parents as "amusing little anecdotes and otherwise backwardsy amusements". It helps that they're 82, genuinely kind and awesome, so I let the little comments/digs/opinions/whatevers go. ;)

Don't let it get to you, parents know how to hurt with the smallest comment or gesture. You are getting stronger. You found the Elliptical without their help, and you will use it without their help. For future reference, you can rent a van from Home Depot for $20 an hour (or so it says on the side of those vans.
We're here for you for support, answers if we know them, and a lot of ears to listen to your vent. You've got this.

Oh, yes. Parents are so much fun...lol. I bet he says stuff like that a lot. My father said things like that all the time. I just learned to ignore him. He passed away 13 years ago. Even though he was a big pain in the ass, I miss him.
Good for you for exercising. I hate it
