Recommendations for what to bring to hospital?

It's real now.  Met the surgeon on the 26th of June and given the date of August 4th at TWH for surgery!  Excited, nervous, a bit scared.  All those things that I think are pretty normal.

I'd like to know if anyone has suggestions on what to bring with me to the hospital - things that aren't always mentioned from all the appointments, but you found yourself wishing you had, or thought would have been helpful?

If anyone had to stay in TO for the extra nights because of travel distance, same thing - anything you wish you had brought to the hotel?  Where did you stay?

Thank you in advance - I really appreciate it!!

Lip balm, a book, slippers, a house coat. I brought my cell but I barely used it. Wear loose clothing when you go in so it'll be easy to put back on post-op. Jaxie's husband drove us both home and he threw pillows on the seats for us which was a GODSEND on our way home.

Good luck and see you on the other side!

This has nothing to do with surgery... But I used to travel a lot for work. I always brought my own shampoo, lotion, and soap so I get a little feeling of "home" while away.

Lotion is a good idea but they generally don't let you shower until the little sticky bandages over the incision points have fallen off. Wash cloth and soap may not be terrible though. I'm so excited for everyone that's so close to surgery :)

I was wondering about that. I will probably buy dry shampoo just in case my hair starts to feel icky before I can shower properly.

i should probably be paid no attention... I tend to overpack for everything.

Bring as little as possible. I way over-packed and used absolutely nothing - I did not read, watch TV or anything else since I was too busy sleeping and walking the halls when I wasn't. In hindsight some lip balm would have been nice. You really don't need to bring anything (I just used hospital gowns) other than a comfortable pair of shoes/slippers for walking, your CPAP machine (if you use one) and perhaps your cell.

I would add earplugs to your list.  Sleep is important, and they are always paging or checking on your roommates in the night and earplugs help.  Also a sleep mask if you have one.

I had my surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago at TWH and I over packed.  I brought all my own shower stuff which was nice but to honest the hospital supplied everything I needed.  I was lucky to be in a private room however, it was right infront of the Nurses station and trust me..... It's LOUD.  I could also hear other patients in other rooms so earplugs are probably a good thing to pack.  I used lip balm, my iPad, and flip flops, face wipes, toothbrush & paste other then that everything else stayed in my suitcase.

Good luck 😀
