I'm Angry
I had my surgery in Feb. I did 8 weeks of opt before that. I have a group of friends how I have breakfast with monthly. I went to the regular breakfast opti and all. I did this because I did not want to be isolated and figured I had to cross the bridge at some point. I respect your choice. I would also say that those who are pressuring you may be doing so as they do not want you to be isolated. That to me comes from a good place. I find I am happier when I view things as coming from a good place, regardless of how insensitive. I think that helps me when I am next to someone eating my favorite sweet. If that starts to bother me I focus on how good I feel and how good I feel about taking the WLS step.
At any rate I think we all have to do what works for ourselves. Hope this is helpful.

I was quite the opposite. I went out with friends 2 months post op and sipped on soup, brought most of it home. I actually enjoyed it because for once in my life I had NO cravings and nothing was tempting to me. I had fun, got some nutrition from my soup, ended up with 3 more meals out of it etc.
On the other hand, good for you for standing up for yourself, I've never been a 'yes' person anyways, so I was always comfy standing my ground. But if it's new for you, congrats.
All of these replies have different perspectives on looking at it. Do what you have to do, for you. :)
Ultimately it's your choice, but I agree with those who say go. I had a similar situation when I was on optifast and the group went to my favourite italian restaurant and I didn't eat. It didn't bother me or anyone else, and I actually felt proud of myself for going and "surviving" my favourite restaurant.
