A bout of gout!

I've had pain on and off for years which I assumed was arthritic toes from all the breaks I've had over the years.  I seem to have toes that break at the slightest tap.  A few days ago I thought the ache would go away but instead has become so intense that I can't even rest my foot on the bed as the weight of a bed sheet causes extreme pain.  I went to the doctor and told her I think it may be gout.  She agreed, sent me for blood work for confirmation and sent me home with anti inflammatory medication and a double dose of Prevacid twice a day (obviously weighing the risks vs benefits of taking them short term).  With the post-operative diet being so high in protein, has anyone else been diagnosed with gout since their surgery?  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is an acute flare up and doesn't lead to a chronic condition.

Ugh - so sorry to hear that Patricia! But I'm very glad you got it checked out, though from what I understand from those I know who have had gout you wouldn't have been able to avoid the doctor due to the incredible pain. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
