How to cover up gastric bypass?
I've decided that I'm not going to tell my family and friends that I have been persuing gastric bypass.
My aunts friend died on the table, so their opinion is fairly negative and I don't want to cause them any extra stress.
My mother knows, and a few friends who had had it, otherwise my lips are sealed.
has anyone hidden the surgery from friends, if so what was your story?
I was thinking of saying "pregnancy put my PCOS into remission and after I was done breast feeding my weight started to decrease..."
if I tell them, it will be long after the surgery is done and I am happy and healthy.
Obviously this is your decision so you get to decide how to proceed. It is really too bad that you feel you cannot tell your family and friends. I would not advise lying about it though, why bother? Plus it would give false hope to people who have PCOS - I have PCOS so I would not personally appreciate being lied to in that way. If people ask just tell them you have dramatically changed your eating and activity habits, which you will have to do before surgery anyways. I do not tell most people I have had surgery, I have only told a few coworkers I trust and close friends, my boss, and my family. To everyone else I just tell them I have changed how I eat - smaller portions, more protein, and more exercise, all of which is true. If they ask any further questions then I might tell them I did the weight loss program through my centre, which is also true. If they asked me outright if I have had surgery then I would probably say yes and tell them and let them know that it was necessary for health reasons, which it was. The reality is that there are risks involved but there are risks with any major surgery. Good luck with this and I hope you are able to get support from some other source to help you through this. Let us know what you decide to do.

People who know me enough to ask know that i work out and eat healthy. I can tell them that I did the doctor supervised weight loss clinic but the pcos remission is not a complete lie, it has gone into a remission of sorts and my doctor has told me that the surgery will help with that progress as well.

There is no real secret. Unfortunately my requisition has been lost more than once, they were able to find the old ones. I have been perusing this since my first appointment in 2010. My next appointment isn't until mid September.
I was told by registration that there are around 300 people waiting for a surgeon appointment right now. They are just super busy.
I told my family that it was a mix of diet, exercise, thyroid meds, etc. My family DO see me eating better, I'm on low calorie facebook groups and have invited my mom who has lost 25 lbs through just diet - so it's very believable to her.

Hi Goal143. I was totally opposite from you. I told absolutely everyone, all coworkers, all friends, most family, my boss, etc. The only person I didn't tell in advance was my Mom as she had a friend who had Roux-en-Y 10 years ago and who died shortly thereafter from rupturing her stitches.
I finally told my Mom a month after the surgery and she was still mad at me up until about 3 weeks ago when she saw me and saw my 72 pound weight loss. She was over the moon with how I have changed for the better.
My advice to you is, don't say anything. Don't lie about the PCOS and just don't say anything. Once people start commenting on your weight loss just say you have adopted a healthier lifestyle and are eating better - because all that is true. And I have PCOS too and like the other gals said I would be sad to hear false hope if I too was also a PCOS sufferer.
Good luck in what you decide!
