Perception is a funny thing!

When grocery shopping over the weekend, a friend I had not seen in a while ran over to me and was freaking out at how I look and she then commented on how I now look 15 years younger.
It made me think how perception is a funny thing....
I think I look thinner, healthier and overall feel better, but not younger, as I now see wrinkles and veins that I did not see before......I also found when I was heavier I looked younger.... My hands now look older and full of veins (I have very pale skin).
I then asked other family members their opinion and they agree I look younger now....
Perception is such an interesting thing.

Yep. All I see are wrinkles in my face that the fat had once filled out. I feel younger, so therefore I am :-)
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
Good lord, I can relate to this Kerry. First off, I know I do not look like I am a senior. I realize this, I understand this, I am reconciled with this in my head - not. a. senior. But I'll be damned if I wasn't in a Rexall pharmacy a couple of weeks ago and the cosmetic sales girl (WHO LOOKED MY AGE, FYI) asked me if I required the seniors' discount.
And ever since then, what do I see when I look in the mirror? Wrinkles of course! Especially the ones that aren't even there.
So, all this to say, I am boycotting Rexall pharmacies for unethical treatment (of what I'm not sure, but I'll think of something).

I think I look older, people say I look younger. I guess it might be my smile and the fact that I can wear cuter clothes now. My morbid obesity was exhausting and maybe that showed on my face. The best part of it all is that now I am likely to reach an older age and enjoy every wrinkle along the way! Good health to you all :-)

Pre-surgery people guess my age at mid-to-late 30's (I'm 46), even with my silver hair. Post-surgery, I've been given the senior's discount. At first I was insulted, but screw it - if they want to save me money I'm not going to argue. I definitely look older. I have hand and arm veins that you can see a mile away. My face isn't *too* bad, wrinkle-wise (aside from the turkey waddle under my chin - remainder of my old 4-chin face). I moisturize like crazy so I don't get that "old lady" crepey skin.
But I can dance, skip and walk like I never could, so screw it. I'll take the senior's discount and skip my way out of the store.

Like you guys, all I see are wrinkles and veins now. I get disappointed in that; when I was heavier and my face was filled with fat, I truly thought I looked younger.
And like you all, my friends and family all tell me how much younger I look! At 45 years old, I'm no spring chicken; as long as I am not mistaken for my 6-year old's grandmother, I'm good with it! Mostly... Not much I can do about it, right?
Then again, I recall my second cousin telling me this: "Who knew you had such AMAZING cheekbones under there?!" I kinda like that one!
