Nature Box

Hey, everyone.

I've heard a lot of good things about Nature Box (though naturally they're based in the States so we have to deal with shipping costs), and I was just wondering if any of you post-surgery folks have tried it.  I'm sure some of their snacks aren't really WLS-friendly, but from what I've heard some of them are.  Thoughts?

Some of them were not too bad but you would have to be careful which ones you chose as some had a lot of sugar. My problem would be that you are allow a few pieces out of a container for a lot of calories. I have portion control issues and would probably just finish the container. They also seem expensive especially once you pay exchange and shipping

I'm pre-op, but subscribe to Nature Box. Although the snacks are "healthy and natural", I find pretty much everything has either a lot of carbs or fat. I believe shipping is $9.95

As as a subscriber, I can send "free boxes" to people. I just need your email address. They will ask for a credit card from you and you would pay shipping. I can do this if you want. I sent my brother a "free box" and he had to pick up shipping.

you can customize the snacks that go into the box, so at least you have some control over the nutritional value you get.

I checked out their web site (very irritating web design! grrr!) and I wouldn't sign up, pay for membership, pay for shipping, etc. No reason to - you can purchase anything they sell (or some semblance of it) here.  There products are high carb and sugar, so I wouldn't be purchasing them here either. You'll find that products that tout themselves as "healthy" generally aren't - buyer/eater beware. You will be much better off eating natural, fresh foods than anything pre-packaged.

Totally agree, their website is not the most user friendly!

You mention that you can get the snacks "here". Does that mean the GTA or was it supposed to be a web link? I ask because I am in love with the lentil loops.

I meant that we have such a huge variety of "snack-type items" all over the GTA, in every grocery store, health food store, Costco, Homesense/Winners even.  My real point is that we are better off eating fresh - not these prepared, packaged things. It's such a temptation to try the many "healthy" snacks that companies create just for people like us, that aren't so healthy after all.

Regarding your Lentil Loops - you can keep them. For 130 calories per serving and 18 grams of carbohydrates, not something I would be eating at all, especially in my losing phase where I kept my daily carbs between 30-35 grams per DAY.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks. I expect I won't be eating lentil loops post-op (if I even get approved). I was just curious if the delicious peppery bites were available locally. 😄

I'm not sure where you are in the GTA, but do you have a Homesense or Winners near you? I see the most interesting "snack-type" items there (especially Homesense). Quite often they have sugar free syrups (to use in shakes or tea or coffee or to mix into yogurt, etc.) and they do have several unique crisps, nut blends, etc. Not that they're healthy per se, but they may have what you're looking for (without the membership, shipping).

As for getting approval for surgery - are you concerned that you won't be approved?

I am downtown Toronto. So, lots of Homesense, Winners, and Marshalls. That is a great tip for finding some of the more rare sugar free items. They always seem to have some random thing that you can't find anywhere else.

i am concerned I won't be approved because I have a gastrointestinal disease. I talked to the NP at orientation, she said it was ok. I talked to my gastroenterologist, he said it should be ok. But the NP I saw for my official NP appointment said some things that has me worried. I have a follow up with her next month after she speaks to my gastroenterologist.

Hmmm... I can see why you'd be concerned. But let's keep in mind, she's a nurse, NOT the surgeon. I would think between your gastro and the bariatric surgeon that they will best decide for you. Wishing you lots of luck with that!
