Moving! Changing Hospitals?

He everyone,

I am in need of some advice. I have my orientation at the end of June at St Joe's. However, it looks like I will be moving to just outside of Kitchener by the end of the summer. Is it possible to switch, say to Guelph? And if so, how would I go about doing this?

Any suggestions or information or experience with this you could offer would be greatly appreciated! I have waited a long time to do this and now that it is finally almost here, something comes up! Of course, it is not a big thing, but would prefer to go to a closer hospital if at all possible.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

I had an orientation at Humber, and switched to Western. What I did was call the hospital, Humber and asked if I could switch hospitals. They asked for a reason, which I gave, and moving is a great reason to switch. They will transfer your file to the other hospital. Takes about 3 weeks, but may differ depending on hospital. Hope that helps, and good luck on your journey!!!

If you are certain that you are moving to the Kitchener area, I would follow Jos' advice and call St. Joe's and inquire about a transfer. If you're not, I would carry on with the original orientation date at St. Joe's and change when/if you're more certain about the move.

There were quite a few people at my Guelph orientation that had started at St Joe's and transferred to Guelph because it has more capacity. It may be worthwhile to call St Joe's and ask if they are still sending some patients to Guelph. If they are sending patients anyway you may want to get on that list. From how I understand the process, you are not expedited through Guelph even if you start the process at St Joe's. So if you are going to transfer, the sooner the better.
