What are you eating/doing today? (Sunday)
Good morning everyone. As appears to be the trend lately my eyes popped open early at 6am, despite the fact that I can sleep in. Maybe I only need 7 hours now? We shall see. Have to go in to work later on today so it will be a less fun day than yesterday. I plan to do my grocery shopping this morning or after work, whenever I can get my butt in gear. Need to clean my kitchen counters and sand down my counters. I bought the stuff so I am ready to go, now I just have to do it.
Btw last night at the bday party I ended up ordering a huge meatloaf dish with mashed potatoes and broccoli, I ate 1/5 of it. Unfortunately I also munched on some fries (maybe 12) and had a few bites of cake. To make a long story short I ended up in the washroom throwing up a little. I know what I did wrong, I ate too fast, too much, too many fatty and sugary things. I have not thrown up in months so this was a little upsetting but an important reminder to pay attention and respect my pouch by not overfilling it or putting in things that it does not like. I ended up leaving the meatloaf leftovers at the restaurant, they lost their appeal after I threw up, and I hate wasting food.

Hope you feel ok after your incident last night. Funny, every time I've been sick since surgery, I feel great immediately after and can eat the same thing again but not right away. Not the same sick sensation I had before.
4 months post op. I feel like I'm eating too many pretzel crackers- about 5-6 a day but they are fabulous and 10 cals/each. CONFESSION- I don't like Fat free anything, so I use reg mayo and cheese =\. Still around 6-700 cals/day
b- 1/2 protein shake
s- greek yogurt
l- cereal with 1% milk
s- 5 pretzel crisps and cheese spread or 1 oz cheese
d- 2-3 tbsp tuna with mayo, 2 crackers
s -rest of my protein shake
Hi Tbeau123, glad to see I am not the only early riser :0)
I feel ok, kind of silly for not respecting my pouch, but I am back on track this morning and that is what matters. I only vomited a small amount, not at all like vomiting pre-op, sort of like a mini-puke. I still felt queasy for about an hour afterwards, then I was hungry again. Omg crackers are one of the most addictive things ever for me post-op, I can eat a lot of them too before I know it, so I do not keep them in my house. I have had success with using cucumber slices instead of crackers, a nice substitute. Bell peppers are also nice to sub for crackers or tortilla chips. Veggies add needed water and fibre not found in many crackers.
I do not like fat free version of stuff in general, many of them just add more sugar to replace the fat, so they are often not as healthy as they seem. Cracker barrel skim milk/lower fat cheese I find good, as well as the low fat pc blue menu swiss cheese slices. I think fat free mayo tastes like garbage but the reduced fat one is not bad. Everyone is different I guess, so it is trial and error.
Hi TBeau
I am not sure how far out you are - if very recent then its a little different. However, if you are more then a few weeks post op I would make some changes to your meal plan.
Crackers are brutal. Very difficult to keep the amounts low and they add no value to your nutritional needs. I also eat full fat cheese - cant stand the other.
OK - just read your post again and see you are 4 months post op. You really are eating very little and very low protein. You must be hungry on what you are eating?
Personally, I would ditch the crackers and the cereal until you get to goal. Protein - veggies and maybe a very little fruit until you get to goal. I would really try to get dense protein in me- so the shake is OK but heavier on some chicken - steak etc
If your calories are around 6-700 then OK - but I think the further out you get hunger will return and with a vengeance on the type of foods you are consuming
Maybe today is a one of re your eating. Also, I am only saying this to try and be helpful so I hope you aren't afraid to post your food again...

Thanks for your input, both of you. The pretzel crisps are really great, 10 cals and I eat about 4-5 a day, but i agree there's not much nutrition to them at all. I like the idea of cucumbers :)....will try with tzaziki. I'm about 45 g of protein most days, i find it hard sometimes. I am not hungry though. I feel like i need to incorporate more veggies, i'll give pretzel crisps a rest. :) They're my only carb really in the form of straight food. No bread or anything for me.
Do you think my pretzel crisps are the worst thing i'm eating?? My day mostly includes a hot meal or 2, yogurt or cottage cheese, protein shake, maybe 1 oz of cheese........Truthfully i bought Corn Flakes and i eat it maybe twice a week only and about 1/3 cup at a time......I should ditch it too right? Plain old Corn Flakes.
I appreciate the suggestions. On the bright side, I have a crockpot of chicken chili on right now :) :)
Just my 2 cents and not being critical but your protein is half what it should be. Every meal and snack should be protein protein protein. If you are still hungry after that then veggies and fruit. Carbs except natural ones from fruit should be avoided if possible. The only crackers I keep in house are Melba toast. A standby for me and nothing that I crave where I want more than one. If they tasted good I would want 10 lol.
I think you are right about the pretzels and cornflakes being empty calories, as well as being very addictive and low in fibre. Maybe you could substitute cooked oat bran for the corn flakes? Or add plain protein powder to the milk with the cornflakes? I had a thing with triscuit crackers for a little while after surgery, I love them btw, my centre told me not to waste space in my pouch with empty calories so I stopped buying them. I get most of my carbs from fruit now, just because it has more nutrients and helps keep me regular.
Not sure how much protein you need, your centre can tell you their exact recommendation based on your height and gender. I am 5"4 female and they recommend at least 67g per day, if that gives you any idea. If I do not eat some protein at each meal/snack I feel it, I get hungry faster and tired more easily.
Chilli is one of my favourite things post-op, and it freezes so well for quick meals. Please keep posting on here if you feel it is helpful, the more the merrier! Have a nice evening :0)

I threw out my corn flakes today.....I had told my centre about pretzel crisps and they were ok with 4-5/day but i'll switch to melba toast.....it's nice a crunchy anyways.
I see my centre next month to talk about stuff, so i'll ask how much protein i should be having but we're about the same height, so should be around 60, which they told me I will be going up to.
I'm going to get some great Turkey deli meat and have a roll up, that will be good variety.
Thanks again!!
I wasn't around on the weekend but just wanted to welcome you to the WAYE thread - this is a great "tool in your toolbox" in planning and tracking your food intake.
P.S. Tossing the corn flakes was an excellent choice. Those pretzel ships are tasty, aren't they - key word: chips. ;)

Good morning everyone. Sorry to hear you were sick Zizzler. I have never actually thrown up post op, but there were times when I wish that I could have after eating something that didn't agree with me.
Yesterday was fantastic, I had a really hard workout in the great outdoors. Today I am suffering with sore muscles, sore back, a bad sunburn (yes I used sunscreen) and I am up a couple of pounds. All that being said, I feel great, strong, and like I did before my accident.
Today I have a mountain of laundry to do, paperwork, general household drudgery, and then chill in front of the TV tonight.
