For me it was not feeling hungry and feeling full after drinking/eating so little. I knew that we would eat/sip very little at a time but my first days at home sipping on the protein shakes, it took so long to get it in. It took all morning to get in breakfast, all afternoon to get in lunch then all evening to get in dinner. Reading/knowing about it is much different than actually experiencing it.

Also for me, I was surprised how little pain I experienced. I was one of the lucky ones.

It will be interesting to hear from you post-op what surprised you even though you knew to expect it.

How quickly the co-morbities dissapeared! Hypertention pills stopped day of surgery...sleep apnea gone within 2 weeks...energy levels through the roof.  I knew this would happen but it was so fast.  As you are gaining the weight things start to go wrong with your body but because it happens over such a long period of time, the connection to morbid obesity is easy to over look.

ditto on my co-morbities disappearing faster than the weight did.

Ditto on the food thing.  By the time I got my vitamins and calcium down - I was stuffed and had to WORK at drinking my shakes and getting everything in!  Who knew eating could be such a challenge.

Another "surprise" was the constipation.  Oh lord, the constipation.  It started about 2 weeks after surgery and lasted damn near a week during which I found religion and started praying for a bowel movement.   I still have bouts of it if I don't drink enough and get in enough fibre.

But the biggest surprise was how good I felt.  Within a couple of days I had energy like I'd never had before.  It was (and still is) an amazing gift. :)

Oh Tes! That is too funny! Finding religion and praying for a poop. I love it! My prayer usually involves asking for patience. And I usually end it be saying "and I want it now!" So much for answered prayers on that one!
