so I had WLS 1.5 years ago, lost 100 lbs, gained back 15, so all is normal, I think.  over the past 3-4 months, immediately after or during a meal, my nose will start running or I start to sneeze.  I have never had allergies of any degree.  This happens every meal....  is anyone else experiencing this at all??  any suggestions????

The sneezing and/or nose running is a vagal nerve response. Here's the science: The vagus nerve runs from your brain to your abdomen. When it gets stimulated (by your stomach/pouch being full of food during or after eating) it causes a response (sneezing, nose running, etc.).  It's your body's way of telling you that you're full - stop eating.

I have a very strong vagal response - my nose runs, I sneeze, my eyes water - when my body has had enough food. This is a hard-stop signal for me to stop eating right away - I'm full, my body has more than enough. Becoming in-tune with this response from your body is extremely helpful in assisting with portion control.  Since you mention a 15 pound regain (which is not terrible, but it's also not a complete "likelihood" nor inevitable - you don't have to have regain) I might suggest paying attention to the stop-eating-signal that your body is sending you.

Thanks for posting! I have been experiencing this also and had no idea what was going on - it felt like an allergic reaction, and I have no allergies either.

I get this when I eat too much dairy.  I went to a naturopath and she told me this.  I thought it was BS but I gave up dairy for a week and the sniffles stopped.

yup! Vagus nerve.... I too get a runny nose.. It has been there from the start. Its annoying and I always have a kleenex handy and a dry nose lol... better than being almost 300 pounds, though!
