Question dealing with wait times.
So I had my referral sent in on March 9th and orientation on April 27th at St. Joe's in hamilton (between referral and orientation went quick). At orientation one of the ladies said we will receive something in the mail within 6-8 weeks regarding first appointment and what test we needed to have for that appointment. Well I called about a week ago and the lady on the phone said I probably won't hear anything for 7-8 months and I would receive requisition paper work for tests 1 month before my first appointment. Now I do understand and expect to have to wait a bit as there is a wait for appointments and what not but 7-8 months just to hear back about the first appointment? Is this normal?
Hi . unfortunately, this does seem normal... For St. Joes. I had my orientation last November and still have not received any appointments. I've called to ask questions and was told that they are just booking people from August's orientations. It does seem long compared to other area hospitals, but they are very busy too. I am sort of thankful for this time . I've done a lot of reading ( there are some great books out there) and following posts on a few different forums and feel more informed and prepared than I was when I started this journey. Its true when people say that the time will go quickly, so hang in there!
Humber I referred Aug /14, orientation Jan/15, first appointment june11/15. We we also told at orientation it would be 6-8 weeks, for next appointments, use your time wisely, and be patient, that's all you can do!!!

Orientation HRRH Jan 26/15 Meet Dr. Starr June 11/15 Sleep Study June 22/15 Trio appt Aug 12/15 Transfer to Dr. Hagen Aug 4/15, Meet Dr. Hagen Aug 13/15, Dr. Glazer Aug 14/15! Surgery Sept 14/15
If it were me.. I would go to my family dr (they shouldn't have a problem with this since they referred you) and request 2 things that may save you some time.
1) a bone density scan. It will be good to have this to monitor your bones thru your life.
2) a sleep study. This test can take some time to get.
BELOW GOAL Happily maintaining 4.5 years out!! Life is GREAT!!! Had my plastic surgery!
It does take quite awhile to hear back for your appointment. I had my information session in December and don't have my first appointment until next week! I am going through Humber however. I have personally decided to try to lose 100 lbs if I can before I have my WLS. (I have A LOT to lose). I have also cut back on my portions and have cut out most carbs I am trying to follow a low carb diet, or lower carb (less than 100g of carbs a day). I love my Fitbit and My Fitness Pal.
