Recovery time

Hello,

I am wondering who tells you when you can return to work?  Is it your surgeon, your family Dr, your bariatric clinic?  What are people receiving 4 or 6 weeks?

Thanks

I think it depends on your job!  My job is quite physical as I am a Personal Support Worker, so I took 6 weeks but if you have a desk job or something not too physical, lots of people only take 4 weeks.  My surgeon let me decide and then wrote the letter according to my wishes.  Hope this helps.

I have a desk job with some lifting but others can lift for me. I was originally told 2 weeks at my surgeon meeting but then when I called TWH for a letter for work, they said 4-6 was their usual. I hope to be back at work after 4 weeks.

I have a desk job and asked for & was granted 4 weeks leave. I am two weeks in and feel good enough that while I wouldn't want to go back to work this week I probably could if I had to.

It all depends on each case.  If you have a desk job, most places say 4 weeks.  Some ask to go back earlier if they do not have benefits to cover the time.  You can be re-evaluated at 4 weeks and they may extend it.  The nurse from the clinic sent me my letter.

I haven't had the surgery yet but my friend who had it last year told me she was glad she took the whole 6 weeks because she used that time to really focus on her new way of eating and get used to new foods and new behaviours before having to add a work day back into the mix. We both have desk jobs but she recommended that I take advantage of the whole 6 weeks if I can.

I work at home on my computer and took 2 weeks, but regretted not taking more. Mostly I was just SO super tired and that lasted a long while for me. Good luck!

My Dr told me she gives everyone 4 weeks off.  I have an office job with a pretty relaxed atmosphere. I felt great and I was kind of bored at home so I went back to work for half days after 3 weeks.  I was back to work full time after 4 weeks with no problems.
