Light-headed Pre-op diet

So I'm on the fourth day of my pre-op diet. I can't have optifast so I'm doing Boost-diabetic with Beneprotein added. Since yesterday, I've noticed that I'm quite light-headed. I don't fall over or anything but I definitely feel off. Has anyone else had this? Did it get better or worse the longer you were on the liquid diet?

Also, I had my pre-op telehealth appointment today and it went well. It looks like everything is going ahead nicely for next Friday (fingers crossed).

Thanks, Leslie

Yes I felt lightheaded sometimes too while on opti.  I would just sit down until it passed and take deep breaths, I never passed out.  It usually happened when I was doing something physical, so try to take it easy, give yourself more time to relax. Make sure you are getting enough liquids, sounds weird since you are on shakes, but you need more than just the shakes to stay hydrated.  I found broth with different spices and a little fresh lemon and/or lime juice to be extremely helpful, and sf freezies and popsicles. Ask your centre for a recommendation if you feel it is getting too bad, they should have some ideas as to what will help.  I felt most sick the first 3-4 days, almost like a flu, it got better after that, so hang in there, you can do this!  Eyes on the prize :0)

Thanks Zizzler. I will take your advice. It helps to know that things will get better.

I too felt very weak on Opti. Could not do anything physical. I had to come off work early due to this as I have a very physically & mentally demanding job.  This. Will pass. Keep your eye on the prize.

Thanks Robyn. I have a soccer game this weekend and based on how I feel now, I'm not sure that I will be up to it. I'm managing at work but I don't have a physical job. I am very tired though.

Hi Leslie,

sorry to read that you are having troubles.  I have chatted on here with you before :).  I too am from London and will be starting my optifast may 22 with surgery on June 12 at TWH with Dr Urbach.  Who is your surgeon?  I had my first telehealth appt and just like yours ...it was very short.  I am still waiting for a date for my pre-op.

Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom to offer you about being light headed.  I do hope it passes for you soon!  And best of luck the rest of the way :)

Susan

Thanks Susan. Dr. Urbach is also my surgeon. The pre-op appointment is much more thorough. Mine was at the Grand Bend Community Health Centre in Hensall. They didn't have any closer to London. I had never heard of Hensall before. I hope you hear about yours soon and that the rest of your journey is smooth.

Wow yeah Hensall is kind of out there.  My first telehealth was 1st to be at St. Joseph's but changed the day before to St. Thomas.  I guess I will just sit and wait to see where I go next lol.

Hope you are feeling better!! You will almost be done week 1:) how exciting is that!

Take care

Susan
