12 days in to my 2 weeks of optifast and i am going crazy it has been hard for me to drink them since the beginning having to plug my nose and chug but at least at the beginning i had the hunger pains that motivated me to chug them down. The last two days I have not even been hungry, I have to get them down i know this and i have even tried and flavours or watering it down so the texture isn't as bad but nothing is helping   is there anyone who can recommend anything?? I want this surgery more then anything, i have for 2 years, I don't want this to be the reason I don't have it.

I'm sorry you're going through Opti-crap Hell, I went through the same thing myself.  You're almost at the end, remember this is temporary and at the end of your 2 weeks you'll  never, EVER have to taste/smell this stuff again.

I had the exact same reaction to the Opti ... and I had 3 weeks of it to get though.  There were actually tears a few times.  Like you, chugging it was the only way I could get it down.  Nothing helped make it palatable. What did make things easier was having a "treat" ready for afterwards - some broth or some sugar-free jello.  Even some sugar-free gum.  Just something to take the taste away and to have something I could sip slowly and enjoy.

You can do this.  It isn't fun, but in the scheme of thing, it's nothing.  And trust me, the surgery and your life afterwards is worth every nasty mouthful and then some.  :)

That sounds awful!  I'll have to do three weeks as well.  Does nothing make it less disgusting?  serving it really cold?  Or hot?  Would having smaller portions of it throughout the day be better than large "meals" of it?

if you dont have it straight away the texture gets worse, i made that mistake the first time I had it. I have tried hot and cold but it is still bad, and i got all these extracts flavours to try but they really did not help. Mind you I have talked to a few friends whom have had the surgery and they never had this problem, so you might not.

Boo to nothing taking the edge off.  I'm so glad you only have a couple days to go.  Hang in there!

I had an awful time the first day. Tears in my eyes, gagging and everything.   Them I found if it was super cold and I mixed the flavours and used a straw and had the straw at the front of my mouth.  It was ok. Sounds a little odd but it worked for me.   You're almost there.  You can do it!

For me definitely the colder the better...even through our ridiculous winter this year. I used lots of ice and the magic bullet along with flavourings (pineapple and coconut was a good combo with vanilla).

You've done so well and you're almost at the end of this phase! You can do this! Hang in there!! Kim

I am so sorry to hear you are struggling hartless.  For me, I would put a packet of orange-mango-strawberry crystal light in the vanilla and blend it in a blender and pour over LOTS of ice.  This seemed to mask the pasty taste of the vanilla and made it more palatable for me.  For the chocolate, quite a few times I would blend it with cooled black coffee instead of water and then pour that over ice.  It tasted like a café mocha.  Just keep remembering just a few days to go and you are doing this to shrink your liver so that all goes smoothly during your surgery.  Sending you good vibes and let us know how you get on. xoxoxo
