Dietician and Psychologist appointments

Hi!  Quick question, something I'm just curious about.

I've noticed in some signatures on the forums that people have had/are scheduled to have appointments with a Dietician and Psychologist before meeting with the surgeon.  Is this a 100% of the time thing?  When I finished Orientation, they handed me a sheet with three appointments on it—Social Worker, Nurse Practitioner, and Nutrition Class.  Am I missing some, or are the others not always necessary?

It all depends on the Centre you are going through.  They all seem to do things differently.

I agree. All centres seem to have different requirements.  I'm based out of Sudbury and I had appointments with a nurse, a pharmacist, a dietitian, and a social worker.

Hello!  I am working with TWH, and like you, I was given my first 3 appointments at Orientation.  While at my Nurse Practitioners appointment, we set up a followup (happens tomorrow).  I got a letter not long after that with the appointment dates confirming the NP followup, and the dietitian & psychologist were also on that list.  They were scheduled for later in May, so I called and got in on a few cancellations.  It's been a process, but it's all been really positive. So much to learn - and at this point I feel really well prepared & informed.

Good luck on your journey :)

Definitely depends on clinic, and on you yourself.  If the social worker or nurse think it would be a benefit for you, you might get sent to a psychologist.  I had a behaviourist/social worker appointment only.  I was cleared by her first visit.  I did see the nutritionist/dietician twice, but everyone else cleared me first visit.

In case anyone's curious, I called TWH today and asked about the appointments.  They said Dietitian and Psychologist are standard "second rounds" appointments that are booked and given out after your Nutrition Class.  There was no indication that these appointments are necessary 100% of the time, but I suppose I'll find that out after I finally have my Nutrition Class.

Pretty sure dietitian is mandatory everywhere. Also require SW/psych for a support and/or mental health assessment at all centres I believe. It's the order that varies.

I have been transferred to Guelph from Hamilton because of the backlog apparently.

My orientation was April 23/15.  I called today and see the nurse May 11/15 and the dietician and social worker June 8/15.  After that, I do not know for sure.
