PCOS Symptoms

Before surgery I had some of the symptoms of PCOS including a cystic ovary, amenorrhea, mild hirsutism, acne and dandruff, (however I didn't meet the diagnostic criteria for PCOS).  For those that have/had similar symptoms or PCOS itself, how long was it before you began to see some of these issues being resolved?  Did you find your symptoms seemed to be better after a certain amount of weight loss?

So far I have seen some minor improvements, but not as much as I was hoping.

I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years before having weight loss surgery. I can't tell you how much weight I loss when the symptoms went away but the acne and hair on my chin disappeared after about 6-8 months. Those were my only symptoms. My cycles did become very regular and normal. They went from 30-34 days to 28 days exactly.

One thing to be aware of is that PCOS is really a syndrome of negatives. As in the reason you have PCOS is because your symptoms aren't attributed to anything else. It's hard to tell if weight loss "cures" PCOS. I know I had insulin resistance as one of my symptoms, however I cant' do the sugar drink test to determine if my insulin resistance has gone away.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16... my only real symptoms of it is the weight, acne and whiskers on my chin. My period is fairly regular and 'normal'. Hopefully the whiskers and acne go after I have surgery!

Only pcos symptoms that weight loss has improved is my weight and periods, the rest are the same, I still take spiro. I was off metformin but my doc wants me to take small amounts now just in case it will help, but I would say insulin resistance is better too.  I feel overall way more healthy and mobile, so it was well worth imho.

Thank you so much for asking this question because I am pre-op and I have PCOS. I was also wondering at what point people have noticed a difference after surgery. Thank you to all *****plied.  I personally have HORRIBLE facial hair and chest/back hair and hair loss which figures lol I can lose hair on my head but can't lose it on my face lol! I have personally found since I have started Metformin I don't feel as bloated as I did and also since I have been following a low glycemic and lower carb eating plan I have noticed the facial hair slow down a bit. But I am hoping with weight loss surgery it will help with some of the symptoms for sure!
