Update from my Nurse Appointment - TWH

I am feeling a little disappointed today... I had my Nurse appointment and everything went well except for the fact that I had my Sleep Study done and it showed moderate sleep apnea. My follow up with the sleep clinic is on Monday but basically the nurse is saying that if I require a mask, then I will have to get the mask and use it and then have the follow up sleep study with the mask before I would move forward. I called the sleep study doctors office and they told me that they usually like the patients to have the mask for 2 months before doing the followup. This really sucks. I don't want to have to wait another 2 months to find out the date that I am having my surgery. I don't want to wear a cpap machine.....

I can appreciate that any delay is disappointing. I wear a CPAP and can tell you it is not that bad. I know there is research that supports good sleep helps with weight loss. That being said the CPAP may be worth the delay if it helps. I know when I wear mine I do have more energy. Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear you are disappointed but the cpap isn't that bad. I've used mine for years and it makes such a big difference. In the grand scale of things, waiting another 2 months isn't that long to wait to get surgery date. I know it sucks but it will be worth it in the end.

Keep your chin up...things will work out as they are supposed to.

Hi Melly sorry to hear about you having sleep apnea.  I have it and use CPAP.  It is amazing how much better I feel with CPAP though.  It sucks that you will have to wait another two months but it will be all worth it!

Sorry to hear that you need a cpap machine one thing I will tell you if you have to pay for it yourself see if you can get a rental because 2 months after my suregery I no longer needed mine I also found I got a better sleep with it.

I know you don't like the thought of waiting but unless you do the follow ups TWH will not move you forward.

Good luck

Just as a follow-up from my OP.

I had the follow-up for my sleep study with the respirologist on Monday. My plan was to plead with him to not give me the mask because I would have surgery and the apnea would most likely go away and I wouldn't need it. It would be a big waste of money.  WELL..... Instead, he advises that if I wasn't having the surgery then he wouldn't even prescribe the mask but because I am, he is because we need to make sure that my breathing is optimal before having the surgery and during the surgery.  So now I am waiting for my insurance to get back to us to advise what portion they will cover and then I get the mask.

My follow-up sleep study is booked for June 28 with the mask and then I will have a follow-up around July 14, 2015 and then hopefully TWH will move me throough.
