Stressing after Gastric Bypass
I am so stressed after this surgery. I had it at the end of January and have lost a little over 50 pounds. My doctor wanted to see 20 more gone by the time I go back (another 2 months) but I'm so afraid I wont lose... I've stalled and am panicking. Did anyone else experience this stress? Am I worried for nothing?
Don't know how much help this will be..but... I had surgery at the beggining of Feb and have also only lost a little over 50 pounds. I've hit a stall at the moment as well... same weight for almost a week.... but I got that for a few days a few weeks ago too... around that time of the month....
Don't now how much help it is, but it's nice to know you're not the only one facing some stalls :)
Thankfully I did not experience that kind of stress. I think you maybe need to take stock of all of the positives that you've accomplished:
- made it through the pre-op diet
- went through with surgery
- lost 50 pounds since late January (that's only 2 1/2 months by the way!) When was the last time you lost 50 pounds in a few months?!
- 50 pounds in 10 weeks = 5 pounds per week!
Some important things to keep in mind:
- stalls, pauses, plateaus, lose/gain a pound happen all. the. time. It's completely normal, most everyone does. Not only that, you're going to have many more along the way. Be prepared.
- a true "stall" in weight loss is at least 3 weeks with no loss, not even a half pound, nothing
- you are not going to lose every day or every week or (as you get out further from surgery) even every month!
Being mindful is imperative - being stressed is useless. If you are following the plan, your body is going to do whatever the hell it feels like doing, whenever it damn well pleases.

Hi Melanie I am sorry to hear that you are stressed. It seems your doctor is putting undue pressure on you re: setting a number for you to be at, by a certain time. Easier said than done! I would suggest to you that you refuse to be weighed at the doctor's appointment, and just tell your doctor that you have been following the plan and don't want to be stressed with specific numbers. Sheesh! Doctors! And, for the record, I think you are doing FABULOUSLY!!! Keep at it girl, you've got this!!!
Are you following your surgeon's plan? If so, try to relax. The weight will come off. If not, start following the plan or not only do you risk not getting to goal, you risk gaining it all back. For long term success, you have to learn good habits now.
