How long in this process did it take to hear you were chosen for surgery?

1 year exactly to the day but it depends on the center. I was in Windsor.

Ok, thanks. How did you cope with all the waiting? I'm just starting out and it's all I can think about! Lol

It will be here before you know it. Research as much as you can. Excitement is overwhelming I know but you can get in the mindset for sure. I didn't overdo the obsessing over it, I still lived life and told myself "your life is gonna change in 8 months, 4 months etc"

It depends which clinic you go through.  Ottawa is about 18 months orientation to surgery.  There are several appointments and sessions to go through.  It is not a quick process, but use the time to research and learn everything you can so that you are fully prepared for each step in the process.  There are some things that you can change in your lifestyle now to help you as you go and post surgery.

What CatW said is great. Start making some changes like giving up pop, quit smoking if you have to. Spend the time finding out what your lifestyle will be after surgery. Check out the what are you eating today posts to get an idea of the changes you will be making. Most posts are for maintenance but still helpful.

Start work on why you are obese. Why do you eat. What are your triggers. None of this will go away after surgery. Get councelling if you think it will help.

Good luck in your journey. This was the best thing I ever did for myself but it a lot of work.

I'm in Northern Ontario going through Thunder Bay and it's going fairly quick. My referral was resubmitted in Jan of this year and by April 29th I'll have done all appts and medical testing for surgery.
