Find WOMEN,FOOD and GOD by GENEEN ROTH! Found soo much comfort and understanding! It's as if she wrote this for post surgical people (without realizing it). Changed my life! Stay strong to break the cycle. Seek CBT for weight loss (also a good book/program, my hospital offered it to us) but can be bought (Dr. Randi Mccabe, Val Taylor).

Good Luck, worth the ride! You are stronger than you even know!

There are risks and costs to a program; but they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction. -JFK

Hello Ontario_Girl

I am sorry for the loss of your dear friend. :(  It's always hard saying those final goodbyes.

Like you I am  pre-surgery too and my emotions have been all over the map this last 1.5 years. I am finally seeing the surgeon on April 16th. In Guelph seeing  the surgeon is the last step before surgery. So I am almost here. I have taken longer than most to get to this point because I too have used food to cope. I have stuffed my feelings down, by eating. I knew that if I did not "fix" this before surgery and went ahead with surgery it would not be good.

The social worker from Guelph suggested a book for me that really changed my life.. It is called  " the food and feelings workbook"  ( A full course meal on emotional health)  It is by Karen R. Koenig LCSw, M.Ed.   you can order it online from Amazon...I took the time to work through it...there are exercises and activities they ask you to do. It was very emotional. I  would suggest if you have a close friend...maybe your sister if she is supportive that you work through some of the modules with her...as they can trigger alot of emotions.  As someone with disordered eating I found this workbook life changing.

Saying goodbye to anything is very hard...for many of us food has been our friend, sometimes our only friend and it was always there for us...as you can see from my timeline....it has taken a lot of work and a lot of meetings with the nutritionist and social worker to get me to  the surgeons visit...I am not rushing this process...as you said...it is a very emotional journey and I too was not prepared for that part of it when my referral went in... I think that is the beauty of what the WLS centers are offering us...is it not just a quick fix operation...we really need to do that work pre-surgery  and for those of us that do that I think the results afterwards can be positive.

You CAN do this....and it is ok to vent,  I have found this is a safe place  and you are among others who have a similar experience.  You CAN do this.
