Question about hypo hypoglycemia post op???
I'm still pre op but must admit, reading about hypo hypoglycemia post op sure scares me. I'm not diabetic so it worries me that sugars will be something to really worry about following surgery. Is it common for people who have RNY and are not diabetic to have to worry about that?
Just a girl trying to become a better ME. Healthier ME. Learning to be happy with ME and love ME. One day at a time.
Diminishing Dawn has some great info on this, so hopefully she responds and if not here is a response from her from earlier this year,

I have post op hypoglycemia and went to an endocronologist who assured me that it is controlled entirely by diet alone and of the 100+ patients he sees that have had Bariatric surgery only a handful have it. I have episodes several times a week and was told that my family history of diabetes (having a predisposition) also plays a factor, though very small. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
there's two types of hypo:
1. From not eating frequently enough or not enough good. Could also happen with vsg or any regular person in life.
2. Reactive hypo - very common with rny folks. Direct result of too many carbs and sugars in our diet.

Like someone else said, it's manageable by diet and if anyone ever needs any direction on handling it, you're more than welcome to message me.
The links above should help.
If I can tell you one piece of advice with this surgery, it is that sugar and carbs are NOT our friends (whether you dum*****t)
