Wondering....
very well written Tracey!
Its so sad that she chose to deactivate, she clearly needs help and support, she may not realize it right now though. Hope she sees how her words impact others. May not have been intentional however.

Obviously no matter what I say you are going to look at the negative, I am allowed to have an opinion just like you are. Only I didn't reprimand you for yours. The centres see thousands of people a year you don't think that it doesn't get automatic for them to pass people through. Regardless I am saying in my honest opinion I believe some people do jump to have the surgery, but that is human nature. Also I personally am saying if I had 100 lbs to lose regardless of my starting weight I would not resort to weight loss surgery. But that is my personal opinion. I did not post that to have people point fingers or try to shame me for my opinion, last time I checked this was a support group and I wanted to know basically if other people felt like this pre-surgery. I wasn't saying this to point fingers and definitely not to have rude people comment.

The centres must catch some because many have come on here to ***** that they have to see the social worker 3 or 4 times or they have to see the psychologist again or the dietitian, etc. There are only so many surgeries allowed per year and some don't get approved for surgery, some change their mind and back out and others just keep working the program and wait their turn.
Your opinion comes across like only those that have many hundreds of pounds to lose should consider surgery. At 600 lbs, you would kill to be 250 lbs I am sure. Those at 250 would kill to be at 150. When we are overweight, we all would love to be at a different weight but it doesn't mean that the person at that weight isn't worthy of surgery or not ready and committed, any less than the person who has lots of weight to lose.
You mention eating a low carb diet and losing weight but am sure we have all done Atkins or Bernstein or pick your poison and have lost weight but we have never been able to sustain the loss. They are lifestyle changes just as surgery is a lifestyle change but surgery makes keeping to that lifestyle just a bit easier but it is still a struggle.
Nobody has been rude to you so not sure who the comments are directed at since you keep replying to yourself instead of to the individual person. It's good that you are working on your issues and questioning if you should have surgery or not. That is what the waiting time is for. If you feel you can lose it on your own then that is a choice you have to make just as those that have chosen to follow through with surgery have made their choice.
I must have missed the rude comments. I see none. I am pretty sure we are all adult enough to have a frank discussion.
Anyway, Im not getting into a ******g match with you.

Again I will say I did not say EVERYBODY that gets the surgery gets it as a quick fix, and you are being rude now pointing out that I am replying to myself and not the actual person. I am on my phone which makes it harder to reply. However just the same as hopefully you can read my replies.
I posted what was my opinion and was looking to see how others felt like if they went through a phase before surgery where they also questioned having the surgery. I thought this was a support forum, not a forum where you post your opinion and get jumped all over for it. Now that I know that you can't have an opinion I will make sure I monitor what I say as not to offend anyone.

I wasn't being rude at all, I was simply pointing out that it's hard to know who you were calling rude when you reply to yourself. You asked opinions and people are giving you theirs. I never said that you said EVERYBODY, you insinuated though that many do in many of your comments. The purpose of weight loss surgery is to lose weight so of course everyone is going to be excited about losing weight and getting to goal and maybe you are seeing those types of posts as people looking for the quick way out when it is just mere excitement. As I said before making the choice to have WLS is a last resort to lose the weight. I've never seen anyone in the 10 years I have been on OH not have dieted numerous times before they made the decision to have surgery.
Darn. Didn't get to this post in time before deactivation! Glad my quick fix helped me to "only" lose 105 pounds, and my diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea high cholesterol etc.....
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
You are going to get jumped all over for dissing those who "only have 100 pounds to lose." Weight loss is hard. How would you feel if someone told you that they'd kill to weigh what you weigh and have no idea why you were considering surgery?
I'm doing it NOW because I know if I don't get my life on track NOW, it could be me having 370 pounds to lose. If you're bitter about that, then do something about it and refrain from belittling those who have less to lose.

Again that is my opinion, apparently you missed where I said not everyone has WLS as a quick fix and yes I would kill to be 250 lbs because at that point I would only have 50 lbs to lose to get to my goal weight I personally think 100 lbs which yes is a lot is an attainable amount of weight to lose ON YOUR OWN. I plan on losing that amount before I even have the surgery. It is hard work, I never said it wasn't.
