Advice: Am I Leading Myself Astray?

Advice please:

as I am getting closer to my appointment with the surgeon, I'm getting more excited! If I am out shopping with friends and I see something cute like a dress on sale in a non-plus size like large, I might buy it for when it will fit postop.

I have a little drawer with four things I really love in it in size large (nothing smaller than that).

When I told a friend about it she gave me a hard time and said that if I don't lose weight or if the surgery falls through I will be mad at myself for buying these items.

What do you guys think? I'm not going on shopping sprees, just getting excited about the surgery.

I think having a cute dress or something else to look forward to is great. You will lose weight. Just remember to try it on regularly. You will be surprised how soon you might be able to wear it. As we lose it is often hard to know what size we are at any one time until you hit maintenance. I hope you enjoy your items. Just remember they may not fit when you finish losing

I wouldn't buy too much because you don't know what shape you will end up with.  I bought a really nice outfit for my goal outfit and it never did fit properly as the cut was wrong for where my shape ended up.  It was the right size but definitely the wrong cut so it was wasted money.  As you lose, you want things to fit properly and gone are the days of it sorta fits.  Definitely do not buy cute shoes or boots because your feet may shrink.  I ended up buying myself a goal piece of jewelry that I didn't allow myself to wear until I was done.  Jewelry fits no matter what size we are{other than rings that is) so it was a wise investment :)

I have MANY pieces of goal clothing I had purchased before I even knew I would be going through surgery. I have always been a bit of a clothing collector, and love fashion. Let me tell you, the feeling when I open up that treasure chest of brand new beautiful clothes, and go try them on and most are even slightly loose, is incredible. I WILL reach the goal has always been my frame of mind going into this, and I have no time for outside negativity. Now, not saying your friend is being negative, she is very clearly trying to support you if you happen to fall, but tell her you're not going to. Tell her you will reach that goal. Tell her no more doubting. Tell her you would love her positive support throughout.

But yes, don't buy too much. I'm five month post op, and have went from a size XXL to a M. A size 20 to a 9/10. I've really tried to stop buying, but it is soon damn hard when you are finally able to wear clothing you always wanted to, but could not.

Good luck to you!

I bought a few "goal" items from secondhand stores so I wouldn't be out a lot of money on something that may not look good or may only fit for a short time. Didn't buy anything unrealistic- I was a 2x and bought some xl's and larges.

I think it's a good motivator :-) and I myself have looked at a lot of stuff and purchased a pair of cute size 6 jeans and a top. I may get braver and by more as I continue to lose weight but I open my closet and look at them frequently :-) Good-Luck

I have done the same thing. I was out shopping this weekend and saw a couple cute dresses. I bought both of them just for when I went down some more. I plan to get even lower than what I purchased but I am using them for my first goal.

We don't do enough to treat ourselves and make yourself feel special and pampered. We buy for our children grandchildren husband and in a lot of cases put ourselves dead last.

If you find something you really like, buy it. When you lose more weight and the garment is to BIG, I'm sure your friend that "gave you a hard time" would love your hand-me-downs.

Enjoy shopping!
