Surgery at the OWMC

Hello, Im new to the forum. I had my last appointment on Feb 24th at the OWMC. I'm just wondering, how long till i hear about a surgery date... Can't wait to start my new life! 

Also, it is great to read all the helpful answers to a lot of questions! Thanks...

You said you had your your last appointment at the WMC so I'm assuming you had your appointment with the nurse behaviourist etc so you are just waiting for a surgery date then right? 

From my experience there isn't a set timeline in regards to surgery dates. There is many things at play. If someone needs their surgery before you because there surgery is dyer then they get chosen first. Doctors are assigned OR times based on availability, so now its hurry up and wait, sucks but true.

There is so much information here for you to read about while your wait for you date, Take advantage of it :-)

Yes, all my other appointments are done. Just waiting for a surgery date...  I know my time will come, just need to be patience. LOL

I met with Dr. Neville on Feb. 10th for my last appointment - my surgery is booked for April 23rd (could have been April 15th - but I am out of town).

You should get a call soon I imagine.

I'm not sure if they still do, but they used to take the first week of each month to plan the surgeries for the next month.  Such as the first week of April to plan May's surgeries.

You still need patients, but you're getting closer!

The appointment on Feb. 24... did you meet your surgeon then?

Usually, after all the appointments are done, then you get a 'final' appointment with the surgeon who will likely do your surgery. At that appointment, you sign the paperwork with him/her to give them permission to do the surgery. You also get the prescription for Optifast. Sometime after that appointment (usually within a month afterwards) you will be called with a surgery date and the date to start your Opti.

As someone else indicated, OWMC surgeons meet the first week of each month to plan out the following month's surgeries. So for example, sometime between April 1 and 10, they will likely meet to plan out surgeries for the month of May. That used to be the way things are done. I know that they have exhausted funding for this year, so folks are waiting until April/May for their surgeries now because OWMC is waiting on the funding to come through.

Depending on whether you've met your surgeon, those are the next steps. Hang in there. You're almost at the end of the long tunnel!

Yes, on the 24th I signed the paperwork,  bought optifast and meant the surgeon.  So, I'm just waiting. Ready to get started on the next step, best part of my journey!
