timeline - getting surgery date

good morning,

I know this has been asked before yet using the search button wasn't much help.  I'm going through TWH for all of my appointments, which I now have all scheduled with the exception of meeting the surgeon.  How long typically was it that you met with the surgeon and the eventual surgery date for you?

I ask as my co-workers are wanting to book time off and I don't want to be "that person" who disrupts everyone else's schedules.  They're great about things, but the more I can plan etc., sure does help!

Thank you & make it a great day!

I was through TWH too. My surgery date was two weeks from last appointment with surgeon. I had to start opti immediately. Of course I was offered later dates, they take out a calendar and show you all the openings, then you select. I selected the earliest one.

Good luck.

Hi Helna!  After my last appointment before meeting the surgeon (which was with the dietician, on a Friday),  I was told that the following Thursday was when they review all the files and decide.  I got a call on the following Friday with my surgeon's appointment.  This was January 16th.  On January 16th I was given a choice of February surgery dates and took February 4th. So the process was pretty quick once I had had my last appointment.  I had Dr. Aarts out of Toronto East General and she was amazing!  A really caring and competent surgeon.  Good luck and keep us posted!

it really depends on how many weeks of Optifast you will need to do and when they review your file. They are reviewed on Thursdays, but the following Thursday after my last appointment some of the people on my team were not available and so my file got reviewed the following Thursday after that and then they called on the Friday with my appointment with the surgeon for 2 weeks later on a Friday and I started Optifast on the Tuesday for 3 weeks.  so all total  my surgery was 6 weeks from my last appointment

Funny that you posted this today! I was wondering the same thing for work purposes, so I gave the clinic at TWH a call to ask them this question. I was told that generally the timeline is that surgery is scheduled 4-10 weeks after the appointment with the surgeon.

It sounds like for some of you it was sooner, but that is what I was told today.
