I have a really bad sore throat. I am 5 weeks post op. Can anyone recommend anything I might be able to take? Can't get through to TWH and not sure my pharmacist will know bariatric patients. Any and all suggestions welcome.

I've had strep a few times and I just take lots of Tylenol and drink lots of fluids, suck on lozenges and then if it doesn't pass, I see a doc in case I need antibiotics.  Tylenol will help if you have a fever along with the pain.  Also I gargle with a lot of listerine or warm sal****er.

Fresh lemon juice in hot/warm water. Add a little honey if you can tolerate it but be very light with the honey because the sugar might cause dumping. Even without the honey...lemon and warm water is very good for a sore throat and you can add a sweetener packet if the lemon is too bitter =)

Also try gargling with salt & warm water 3 times a day. 1 tsp salt in 8oz water will also help. Hope you feel better soon...the sore throat is going around, both my daughter have had it in the last 2 weeks. Good luck

Sorry to hear about your sore throat :( my throat was so sore after surgery from the tube, my husband found buckleys sugar free lozenges at the pharmacy for me and they made all the difference. They didn't taste like buckleys at all thabk god lol. If you go the pharmacy they have lots of sugar free choices. Feel better soon xo.

Thanks all for your replies. I got no sugar added menthol Ricola lozenges and took one and I didn't have dumping syndrome thankfully and it helped. I am going to take a tylenol with dinner tonight too. Will try the gargling with warm sal****er now.

There is this topical numbing spray. Cholraseptic. Most pharmacies will carry it. I think it comes in 2 different flavors. I tried it when I was pregnant for a severe sore throat and it worked.
