Hi All,

Down 13 since op, 27 since Opti feb 4. I'm on full fluids now but am not hungry. I think I'm at the 3 week stall I hear about. I am thirsty and drink apple juice but overall having about 400 cals/day- is that too much?

Thanks!! Feeling good btw :) :) :)

Don't worry about calories, just protein intake and water. Good luck :)

No, not too much.  Don't worry about calories, just protein and water!  Once you get on solid foods, I found that it was around 800-900 calories, then up to 1000 and so on just for info.  It's also a little different for everyone.

Calories aren't really counted at this stage.  Just make sure that you are getting your protein, water and vitamins in.  And watch the juices, lots of sugar hidden in there.

My tummy couldn't handle plain water in the beginning post op. So I had to do the juice thing also. I diluted my apple juice in the beginning stages, but no, 400 calories is not too much. Like others said, don't even worry about the calories at this point, worry about protein and staying hydrated.

Minute maid also has a low calorie juice option. It is about 70% lower in calories, and 50 calories per cup (or so) It tastes exactly like the full caloric one. I drink low calorie orange juice / low calorie cranberry juice / and low calorie grape juice. And I dilute them all a little bit.

Good luck!

Well, that's the thing - you are not going to be hungry. You've just had major abdominal surgery rearranging your guts and bypassing most of your stomach. I am 9 years post-op and I can honestly say I have not felt hunger since surgery. (I may feel empty, but not hungry in the traditional sense)

I am curious why you are choosing to drink juice instead of water. Juice is FULL of natural sugar.
