What can expect at and after orientation at HRRH?
If you have done a lot of research you may find the orientation repetitive as well. They go over How the surgery is done. They go over what you can expect to be able to eat post-op, The dietary stages post-op, possible complications, They also go over things you should be doing now to prepare for surgery. You have already started by nixing pop and coffee. If you are a smoker you have to quit ASAP !!! Eat 3 meals a day, no skipping meals, try to cut off fast food and high fat, high sugar food, increase your water intake to 1.5L per day. They will give you a couple of packages to take home and you MUST I mean MUST !!!! read them and know them well because they quiz you when you go for your bariatric team appointments. I waited for 8 weeks after orientation before I got my surgeons date, which was in turn a month after that, My bariatric team appointments where all on one day a month after my surgeons appt, I got my surgery date the date the triple threat as I call them (Clinic Nurse, Dietitian,Social Worker) all okay`d me for surgery. My appt with the internist Dr.Glazer was originally in May 2015 but when I called his office with my surgery date they changed the appointment to Feb 5th and I just had my PATTS Feb 17th and I got for surgery March 2nd 2015. Hopefully this answers some of your questions. Good_Luck :-)

Hi Pegasus_AM
Thanks so much for you response and for the heads up on reading all the info they give me. I was a little worried the orientation might be repetitive since I have done so much research. I will be sure to study the info they do give me I had heard that they do kinda quiz you. I just hope I pass I've never been good at quizzes lol. Thanks again for the info and good luck. Please keep me posted on your progress I would love to stay in touch.

The orientation was really informative I had mine at the HRRH on December 15th, 2014. I am waiting to hear about my appointments still. But they said it can take up to 6 months to hear anything about the appointments. But the only thing I am kinda bummed about is that we can't chew gum for a year after surgery, I love me some sugar free gum. :)
Hi Dianne,
Dont be nervous I was nervous also but it's really not that bad... Orientation is 3 hrs long a lot of information. They recommend you bring someone but I didn't because I wasn't sure if I was going to do this or not and haven't told anyone so I went alone.. Get there little early to register so u can get a good spot at the front of the room.. Bring some water my orientation was in March room was so hot it's while before u get a break.. Bring a pen to take few notes.. If u have any questions they are to be ask at the end of the presentation.. They cover everything from the good to bad.. Best of luck on ur journey

Surgeon appointment was very quick he went over the possible risk of the surgery said its just like any other surgery the risk involved.. Is was about 5 min if that. First thing he did was weigh me.. After seeing him they tell u to go upstairs to book appointment with Dr glazer then sent u over to the hospital for blood work..
