What are you eating/doing today (Family Day Monday)
Good morning everyone. Sorry I was MIA yesterday, just one of those days where I got up too early (like today) and then was napping most of the day.
Today DH and I plan to go to the movies, one that will not pose a problem with my walker hopefully. We want to see The Kingsmen so hopefully it will be good. DH ventured out in the cold to do grocery shopping yesterday and picked up lobster tails for last night's dinner, but I napped until 9:00pm so my dinner was soup. Here's hoping tonight will be lobster. I looked at the long range forecast and it says that in a month's time we will be looking at plus temperatures and some as high as plus 8. Hang in there Pat this weather is almost done.

Haven't posted in this thread in awhile even though I posted daily before. Need to keep the carbs out of my life again as they were getting out of control. When did I start actually liking bread? A loaf would last me a year before and lately I could eat a loaf a week so all that crap is gone. Can't believe how much I was craving sandwiches of all kinds. Might be a time of year thing, as my dad, is eating way more bread and pasta than ever as well.
B - protein shake
S - protein shake
L - roasted veggies and bacon frittata, green salad
S - roasted veggies and bacon frittata with 1 oz old cheddar
D - 3.5 oz steak, sauteed mushrooms, steamed green beans
1169 calories, 40 gram carbs, 66 grams fat, 112 grams protein
Lots and lots of water and coffee then switch to decaf and herbal tea.
Good morning Tracey. I hear you on the whole carb thing. There must be some type of correlation between lack of sunlight in winter and craving sources of immediate energy which are in carbs. I never had a sweet tooth before surgery, NSA chocolate would sit in my cupboard for 6 months easily before I opened the package. Now I crave it and this something very new to me. Trying to not give in and eat sweet things which triggers cravings for more sweet things. Bread used to be one of my downfalls, but the only bread I eat now is that Baker's Deluxe bread and trust me no one would want to overindulge on the stuff.
Your menu looks really good, I may have to steal some of your ideas for tomorrow.

I had surgery 9.5 years ago and started craving sugar about 6 months ago. Prior to that, I baked and baked for DH and seldom ate any of it but just before Christmas, I'd bake and then want what I was making. Needless to say the baking has halted for the most part. He works away a week and home a week so I was always cooking the week he was gone so he'd come home to his favourites but now forget it. Now I make one dessert the week he is home and try to avoid it completely. Freezer is no longer full of baked goods. I was in need of sugar the other day that I ate chocolate chips. Bread makes me crave sugar so have to get rid of it all again. I"m not a fan of the egg bites so I make mine as a frittata and just slice it up and eat it daily til it's gone. Will make another one tomorrow as these are the last two pieces. I like swiss cheese in the one with bacon and brussel sprouts but they add up the calories way too fast so will just add it after so I can control the amount a lot better. Not too worried about calories at this point, more concerned with my carb numbers. I live way up north where it's been between -30 and -40 for months now so I think that makes us all crave comfort food. My dad is a small man and can eat carbs if he wants to but it isn't his favourite thing to eat yet he is craving it as well. He told me he has been eating a loaf of bread a week as well so guess it's a winter thing.

Morning
I crave carbs all year round! Just easier to avoid in the summer with grilling available.
Stayed up way past my bedtime to watch the SNL special. I am old enough to remember parties coming to a complete stop at 11:30 so everyone could sit around the TV and watch Saturday Night Live. The reunion special was too long in my opinion.
Going to try and go really low today to get my hunger corralled. A few days of low calorie eating usually does the trick. Its just getting thru those first few days.

Good morning, another brisk day. I will get out and shovel and then my husband has a men's breakfast so I will get to the mall to walk. Since he has the breakfast he should be gone long enough for me to get my full 10,000 steps in.
B- boiled egg, strawberries and raspberries
L- crustless pizza with ham, sauce, pepperoni, peppers and cheese
D- salad with chicken breast and strawberries
S- gelatin in broth to get another great night of sleep
Thanks cc about the weather. After going for a walk yesterday I need to hear this ice age will eventually melt. So funny yesterday. Walked to get some ginger at the store for a recipe my dh wanted to make. He suggested we walk further to another store. Then he decided it was too cold and we should take the bus back. He even threw in he thought it was too cold for my northern dog.
Let us know how the Kingsman is. I am looking forward to seeing it. We are going to the home show today. Want to look at finishes for our garage. Our garage is at the back of our yard and is free standing.
b greek yogurt, granola, raspberries
l baby bel, laughing cow, crackers, protein shake
d beef stew, salad with avacadeo
cal 1030, prot 94.5, carb 61
Morning all :)
CC, I can't imagine in this day and age and with all of the legislation in place that a movie theatre would not be accessible for a person using a walker for mobility. Complain loudly if it's not!
Interesting discussion this morning re. carbs and the cold. I read something the other day discussing exactly this (and I will go searching for whatever it was that I read so I can quote it more accurately) but the basic gist of it was that eating very low carb, as most of us do, can lead to feeling cold because, according to this source, the body process for ingesting and breaking down carbs (and therefore sugars, since they are a carb) makes the body create an energy that causes the body to feel warmth, quickly. Anyway, it was a bit of an "aha" moment for me because as I look back I was always so freakin' hot when I was not only heavy but also ingesting large amounts of carbohydrates.
Also interesting to note from your discussion that there is agreement that eating carbs/sugar leads to the "want" of more. Carbs beget more carbs, sugar begets more sugar. I am generally really strict on my carb (and especially sugar) limitations and have noticed myself craving a "sweet" at times. This NEVER happened to me before, ever, because I had mostly cut them completely from my diet and they weren't in my house to want to eat. Enter Andrew and his goddamned delicious homemade shortbread and what do I find myself thinking about when having an evening tea/coffee? Thaaaat's right - goddamned delicious homemade shortbread. Eating carbs like that lead me to wanting more, plain and simple. My home is currently a no-shortbread zone to save my sanity (and my waistline lol). As an aside, I noted a few weeks ago that I started to have some sweet cravings after adding some fruit to my daily menu - had to mostly cut that out too. My homemade cranberries didn't - they weren't sweet - but the halo oranges and grapes sure did.
Anyway....
