Hi, everyone. Forum newbie here with a quick question.

I had my orientation on Wednesday at TWH and at the end of it I was given a sheet with my next three appointment dates on it. I like to think I'm a pretty patient person, but I expected them to be sooner than they are. The last one isn't until August.

Is this normal for TWH? What have your wait times been like?

You can definitely get a shorter wait as many people will cancel their appointments, just call and ask (don't over-do it). My own timeline has been over 3 years from first referral until now, you can read the details on my profile/blog if you're interested.

Hi there. I was originally referred in November 2013. By April 2014 I hadn't heard anything so I phonedand phoned and phoned and finally I was told they lost my referral. I got an orientation date (from a cancellation) on May 21st. From there I went through the process normally, not calling in for cancellations and my surgery was Feb 4th (and 6th - had a complication).

I know it doesn't seem like it now but before you know it the appointments will fly by and it will be time for your surgery.

Orientation Jan 26, appointments listed below in signature. Your time line seems about right. It will fly by though and you can use this time to change bad habits and create better ones. A couple months ago I was all excited to jump on cancellations and I will if they come up but I'm actually liking the time to learn. I've not called to ask about cancels, I will ask when I'm there on March 9th but I'm totally cool with this time line so far.

Trust me a couple months ago I was itching to get on a plane to Mexico and have it done there, I was so impatient. I'm learning stuff and making changes, I think this time is good.

My wait times were more spread out initially, but like others have mentioned - call in and see if any cancellations pop up.  It has made a difference in my timeline a bit.  I am also happy that it's not happening too fast so that I have the time to work on some new habits and changes.  It'll happen.  Hang in there :)

IT seems like a long time what you can do is call TWH tomorrow and ask for any cancellations and if you continue to call every week you will get cancellations as they have them all the time..

Don't be shy about calling to see if there are cancellations. I had every one of my appointments accelerated. My orientation was in Nov. '14 and appt. #3 originally scheduled for March '15. After calling to see if there were cancellations, I have now had all appointments completed by the end of January and been cleared for surgery. My appointment with the surgeon is Mar. 13, and I will be calling to see if there is anything earlier, too.

Hi Keith K........are you going to Guelph General or a GTA centre.    My orientation is Feb 26 @ Guelph and I would like to have my appts all on one day for convenience as I am 1.5hrs from the centre.   Cancellation lists was an option I was going to "exploit" to my benefit if possible.

Thanks, CLm

I suggest you call about cancellations because everyone at the orientation was given appointments but not everyone will actually move forward with the process. What I liked at Humber was the three appointments were all the same day. I don't think this changed the total time line but it reduced the number of times I had to take off work.

Good Luck!

TWH is great for cancellations.  Every one of my appointments (including orientation and surgery) were cancellations.  Call every week, be friendly, and they will help you out.  I flew through the process as a result.  My dates are in my signature.

Good luck!

Tracy.
