A newbie with a question probably a silly one.. Here goes when I was training years ago with a personal trainer and working with nutritionist they talked about the body going into starvation if u don't get enough calories, skipping meals and so on..  After researching wls pre op diet post op diet and what are you eating today the calories are under 1000.. How does one lose weight and function with little calories and not go into starvation mode?? trying to make sense of it all??

You will not starve at 1000 calories. Initially you will probably only consume about 600. Your body will adjust to this. It will be extremely important to take your vitamins. You will not absorb all the calories you take in at the beginning. When you do start to absorb them you will still not absorb enough vitamins.

Check out the what are you eating thread. It will give you an idea of what people eat. We have some people at different stages.
