Opinions on what to tell the boss?
I would suggest to tell your Boss - life would be very easy afterwards. People at my work knew if was going on a leave . I did not announce it to everyone but whoever asked I did not hide. I am back to work after 2 weeks and my co workers were happy to see me .I didn't have to worry about my food or vitamins or lying about weight loss. By telling them it made my life easier and took extra stress away from me!
For me, I am an open book. I told my boss and all my co-workers. Mind you, my GM has previously had WLS as well. Because of my success, I have 4 co-workers going through it as well!
I told everyone I have an ulcer, you could say the same and say that you are going to get it fixed in hospital. That explains your small amount of eating and also your food choices because basically those are the foods you would eat if you had an ulcer. It's up to you who you tell, some are open books and that's fine, some like myself didn't want the worry or judgement that would come from others. People don't try to force food on you if they think you have an ulcer, in fact I hear a lot of "my aunt had one and she lost alot of weight" type of comment.

I have told anyone that will listen to me.
I'm proud of my decision and I will be proud of my journey.
People will judge ANYBODY for ANYTHING - in most cases, it is their own insecurities that they project on others when they are judging.
Life is too short to worry what other people think!!!!

Depends on how much you want her to know. You can tell her everything, or just tell her that you are having a medical procedure on April 22nd, and will require time off. If she asks about the Opti stage and after, you can either tell her that you are on a medically supervised lifestyle change program, as you are trying to improve your health or tell her that it is a prerequisite to the medical procedure.
I myself got caught when I went on Opti, a few people understood what it meant, but they didn't say anything.

I just told them I was having abdominal surgery. I work in a large company and there are thousands of people but stuff spreads like wildfire once it gets out and I didn't want everybody to know so I just told a couple of my close co-workers and told HR I was having abdominal surgery.

I told one coworker when I first got my date. I planned on keeping the details to myself, but we're a pretty close knit group and I started to tell a few people, I was blown away by the amount of support ! I thought many would be judgemental (especially the skinny ones) turns out I'm the judgemental person! I was amazed at how many people know someone who's had this surgery.
My original plan was to tell people once I was back because I really didn't want to listen to anyone trying to talk me out of it.
The he decision is yours, do what makes you happy. It's nobody's business!
