TV Show 'Fat and Back'
on 2/11/15 11:19 am, edited 2/11/15 11:20 am - Toronto, Canada
A chronicle of a British tv personality who partakes in an experiment to gain weight, ALOT OF IT, PURPOSELY, followed by lose it again. PVR'ing it now, and I have a feeling I will dislike this show very much.
Maybe it will actually surprise me… Maybe it won't be as ridiculous as it sounds. We shall see.
There was a lot of buzz about this a few weeks ago and the general feeling (members of the media included) was that the woman is a complete judgemental arsehole. I saw a few snippets of various interviews with her and I have to agree - she really is a complete arsehole. I suspect you'll dislike the show (and her) very much. lol

Just the premise behind the show, makes me sense that. I will be watching it this eve!
I watched this last night with hubby , who was absolutely disgusted by her ! OK so ...being from the UK I'm pretty aware of this wretched witch ! And of course all my family and friends are in the UK and their Facebook pages just blow up sometimes ( a lot lately ) with their outrage at what she hits out with !! So I watched with expectancy , just waiting to be completely pissed off by her comments . She didn't disappoint , her whole viewpoint is solely based on her own experience . And how she makes comparison I do not know . I don't know how someone can be so ignorant to not be able to see that one persons metabolism, emotional state , body mechanics and whole life experience with food and diets and so on , is completely different from another . The first two weeks of her eating 4000 calories a day , she did not gain any weight !!! Ffs ...that should have told her right there that maybe her body is different from someone like me ...who if I even sniffed at 4000 calories in one day ......would gain 5 pounds !!!
However , I really do have to say , I feel.that she did sort of come around at the end , and I also have to admit , that even though she still pissed me off , I sort of saw her in a different light . I think she is insecure in a way , maybe about her looks ? I don't know ....but I saw some vulnerability there . So it softens me a little . And I do agree with some of her statements, especially when it came to her opinions on kids who are obese . I think we as parents control what and how our children eat . There is no need for a 5 year old to weigh 160 lbs . ( not sure if that was this show or My 600 lbs life ) but her opinions on it made sense to me .
Anyway , watch it and tell me what you think . She's still a total knob to me ...and I think the whole project was a waste of time . But it should be interesting to see if it has made her change how she comments in future .

UGH!!! Watching now, CAN'T STAND HER! What an asshole!!
I HATED her! She has to a degree a point. However, as someone who is a single mom to two gorgeous children, a full time job and has been overweight since I was 4 y.o. I didn't have her metabolism, her time, her energy and I gave birth to two children (did I mention they were gorgeous? lol) So, my body as is the majority of ours, different then hers. My mom didn't go over 100 lbs with either of her pregnancies, she is a couch potato, eats whatever she wants, she has a different metabolism than I have.
She never considered this, or I don't remember her mentioning it.
I did like the responses of the gentlemen when she showed off in her bikini....thank you.
Please let us know what you thought of the program once you've watched it.
I agree with everything the above poster said.

She is such a jerk!!! Can't stand her at all! About 30 minutes in...
I seen this advertised but have no****ched it, the whole premise of it angers me.... It tells me how uneducated and ill-informed she really is, and now she is going to propagate this ignorance to the rest of the world, only increasing the stigma and hatred towards obesity by others as ill-informed as her. She proved a point (by reading the above) that she can eat higher calories than the norm and not gain weight. This is not the typical experience of someone prone to obesity. I suspect she will equally prove the point that she can lose whatever weight she gains after the 3 months is up - thus justifying her opinion (and the opinion of her viewers). But this is completely unrealistic. The fact is that most people who are obese can quickly lose a few pounds of recently gained weight.... this is not the problem... the problem is keeping that weight off - after we have (for various reasons) dysregulated our internal satiety cues, drastically changed our metabolic systems over the years, permanently stretched our stomachs and other body parts and created a neurohormone environment that seeks to regain any weight we've lost after a short period of time....... This is DRASTICALLY different than a normal weight person, with a normal metabolic system temporarily packing on a few pounds for a very short period of time and then returning to normal..... fer gawd's sake, as soon as she goes back to eating normal again, her body will do the vast majority of the work for her on it own! Couple that with a bit of intensive work out for a few weeks and ta-da! She has made her point and we are all lazy sloths...... She has done nothing more than alter calorie intake and calorie burn for a very brief amount of time, but yet she wants to compare herself to us who have, beyond the dysregulated systems above, likely deal with dysregulated cortisol feedback loops due to stress, dysregulated sleeping pattterns, messed up leptin/ghrelin and insulin functioning, physical limitations, emotional complexities, addictions..... geesh! I could go on and on....
I hate what she is doing and I hate that any broadcaster would actually air her garbage - she is essentially doing to obesity what we have been fighting for years to overcome with mental health..... we've been trying to get rid of the stigma, teaching people not to blame those with depression/anxiety/bipolar etc... and now she is doing this with obesity.... It's not to say that we didn't put the food in our mouths, but obesity is not as simple as choosing not to eat a big mac.... there's a reason why the AMA recently took the stance of labelling obesity a disease.
