Lifting after surgery. I've heard different rules around this. Please let me know the rules or guidelines around lifting. Thanks so much!

I just had a lap surgery 10 days ago, not WLS, and was told it's now nothing over 20 lbs for 4 weeks. Rules seem to differ from surgeon to surgeon so all depends on who your surgeon is.  I asked on day of discharge to make sure I knew for sure.

I was told 10 lbs and quite honestly, I couldn't lift that if I tried for the first few weeks anyhow.

don't lift anything heavier than 5lbs for at least a couple of months, you would have been told that you should also not vaccum, nor should you try to pull wash out of the washing machine.  Although the incisions are small, make NO mistake about it, you have undergone a full fledged surgery and they have cut through several layers of tissue, muscle and fat.

I wasn't told about the pulling laundry out of the washing machine, but I sure felt the pain...and continued to feel that incident for a couple of days.

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
