London resident worked up in Windsor having surgery in Toronto...have a ?

Once Windsor signs off on you and your chart goes to Toronto how long is it till TWH contacts you?  Also, when you do finally get an appt to meet your surgeon are you given an O.R date right then?

I switched to TWH from HRRH, and it took about 3 weeks for them to get it! I called them at least every other day to see if it had arrived. The number for TWH is 416 603 5800 ext 6145, press 2. You will have to go through a process before meeting your surgeon and getting a date. You will have to go to an orientation, and there they will give you your first 3 appointments. You will have to meet with a social worker, take a nutrition class, meet with a nurse practitioner, a dietitian, a psychologist. Then they will due a team review to sure you are ready for surgery, then through a random draw they will pick your surgeon and then you will get to meet him/her. Your surgeon then will give you a date. You might have to even get a colonoscopy and have a sleep study done, so I suggest you call your GP and get them to refer you to get them done. I believe you may have misunderstood her question. Her file will automatically go to Toronto and she will have many of the appointments already done in Windsor - they are a satellite. I believe her question is with respect to how long it will take to get a surgeon appointment once her requirements are complete in Windsor, as she won't have to go through all of the appointments again.

Hi thanks for your reply.  Windsor is a bariatric centre they do all the work up at their facility.  I've been through the process of all the appointments (orientation, nurse, social worker x2, dietician x2, and Dr x2, pre-op training class) Once you are complete they send your chart to either Toronto or Guelph.... Guelph was closed for new referrals. Just wondering how long till I can expect to hear :)

They typically will have your file within two weeks and then it takes about 4-6 weeks for Toronto to call you. Your appointment should be about a month after that or even less.

At that appointment, you will meet your surgeon, get your date for pre op work, surgery appointment, and buy your opti. Your surgery date should be about a month or two from that appointment. Remember that it may not be exactly the same time frame but should be close. I know our center ( Windsor) says to wait at least six weeks to call TWH if you have not heard from them but I suggest you call them 3 weeks from your post op class where they told you they would send off your file. This is to ensure they have both received it and there is nothing missing or left undone.

Ditto on the time frame mentioned above. My last appt in Windsor was Sept 28th, then they called me at the beginning of November to book me to see the surgeon on November 28th. At that appt I got my date for surgery, January 5th.
