Hey all,

So i have decided to take a trip to Cuba in April as a present to myself, both for loosing weight and finishing 4 years of school. I know that the food in Cuba isn't the best, and they tend to a very little selection. So my question is... Has anyone traveled to Cuba or somewhere similar after gastric bypass? what would you recommend i take with me food wise? Any tips on eating while there?

Thanks :)

Most meals were fine. They serve a lot of chicken. I did take some protein powder and made myself a coffee latte shake for breakfast one morning.

They would serve eggs, cold cuts bacon or ham and a lot of starch at breakfast. I do not do eggs well so I had a protein shake near the end of the stay.

Our resort had a barbeque for lunch or a buffet with lots of choice.

Each restaurant they had a different choices for dinner. Usually a lot of seafood very little beef and lots of chicken

Have fun and soak up the sun.

Haven't travelled to Cuba, but if you want to take me with you, I could give advice while there.  Or, you could take protein bars, nuts in the single serving packages, protein shakes in the single serving packages.  I would say stick to protein, fish, beef etc. avoid fruits and raw veg.  Mainly stick to things that are cooked, less chance of coming down with something.Drink bottles of water.  Enjoy the sun and surf, and of course the warm, really the food is not as important as those things.  Have a great time.

I was pondering the same thing! I fly out to Cuba Feb 21st. I am mainly going for Havana, to soak up some of the history, get some great photographs, see the vintage cars… Last time in Cuba, I remember there being a lot of chicken, also a lot of eggs, many different ways. I will also be bringing protein powder with me. I'm looking forward to soaking up some sun, and going in the water. I haven't been in a swimsuit in at least five years. Its an early birthday present to me. And my first ever pleasure non work related solo trip.

So many firsts seem to be happening, now that the weight is coming off

I went to Cuba in November.  I took protein bars with me.  I ate a lot of omeletes, chicken and soup.

It was my first time and my first holiday since losing the weight.  Have a great time!

I am not post-op but have been to Cuba a dozen times.  There has always been plenty of fish, pork and chicken at lunch and dinner, no matter which resort I was at.  As previous posters indicated, I would take protein powder and bars with me, especially for breakfast.  Enjoy Cuba!
