Ground meats

I'm in the soft foods stage right now, and I was looking at my food list from TWH, and nowhere on it doesn't it mention ground meats. But, when I looked at the protein list they gave me in Windsor, it says no ground meats of any kind until 5 months out. Does anyone know why this is?

I guess this means it'll be awhile before trying chili...

Makes no sense to have to wait for ground meats.  That is usually the first meat they suggest we try.  Now Guelph, says no red meat for 6 months so if it says no ground beef then that would be why.  I know that Windsor used to be married up with mostly Guelph so maybe that is where that info came from  I'd contact TWH to see what their take on ground meats are since that is where you had surgery.  I believe most at TWH have all had chili on soft food stages, some made with beef, others with turkey or chicken but all ground meat.  When you think logically why would a chicken breast be allowed before ground chicken?  Doesn't make sense.

Hi Swell,

I've been eating turkey chilli since the puréed phase (and didn't even need to purée). It went down easy.  So far the only thing that has caused me any trouble has been some chicken breast that didn't have enough moisture with it.  I had cooked a curry and it was fine the first time I ate it because I guess I had enough of the curry sauce with it. The second time I ate it I was trying to eat more chicken to maximize my protein and that was a mistake.  I spent a couple of miserable hours and eventually the chicken "returned".

But chilli was easy and lovely. I'm going to make another big batch tomorrow.

Hope you're well!

I have been eating chili since about 3 weeks out. No problem at all. I have more problem with chicken breast even now after 4 months. I make a big batch of chili then freeze it in 1/2 cup servings and take it with me for lunches. Works great.

Same. And I still can't tolerate chicken. I just avoid it for now. I will try some dark meat (more tender and easy to take) next time around, but for now, I am doing fine without it.

Thanks everyone! I thought it seemed strange, especially the TWH booklet has recipes for pureed meats (including beef), yet then Windsor tells me to avoid all form of red meat until 5-6 months out. There just see to be so many contradictions between centres that it makes it super confusing.

I may have to break out the slow cooker and make some turkey chili this week!

Thanks!

TWH and Windsor are different programs. I did Wendy's chili at this point. I am with TWH. hope that helps
